Depends on the AI. I think AI that is generative (Music, Images, video etc) is harmful to just a lot of different people , industries and so on that would take a novel to explain why lol. However there are uses like cancer detection that can be beneficial.
The elephant in the room of course is just the environmental impact of it all. Even the best Cancer detecting AI as far as I'm concerned, takes up a lot of energy.

I think it has plateaued in some way, but as a software engineer - it made my job a lot easier and less stressful, it takes away the labor work.
I think in medical field etc it has had good impact, from what I read in news, but not being an expert I can't say for real.

Personally I can't say I like it.
AI largely has to plagarize a lot to function.
Hours of writing, art, coding, anything to train the model. On top of that they use vast amounts of power and water to run these models whilst also pumping pollution into the air around the data centers they construct to run them.
After all that they end up making people less productive by either making them not have to do the work or by having to fix the mistakes from the AI.
If you use it for art or writing or music you end up robbing yourself of the creative struggle.
So I really don't like it.
