Here to learn Gentle Fist and the Byakugan!

Ah, another Hyuga. A lot of you popping up lately. I'm starting to suspect a conspiracy..

So for the purposes of simplifying this process a little, we'll split these two focuses: One on the Byakugan itself, the other on Gentle Fist. So with that said, what do we know about this particular set of eyes, how they work and what differentiates them fundamentally from the other well known Dojutsu?

Gotcha.

Basics out of the way, we know that it’s one of the three great doujutsu, and the base level of the Tendogan and Tenseigan. Intrinsic to the members of the Hyuga clan, it grants the wielder a 360º field of vision with the exception of a singular blind spot and the back of the neck above the third thoracic vertebra.

The eyes allow the user to see through solid objects and provide a degree of telescopic sight that covers up to 3 adjacent landmarks, which, in the context of the roleplay, is up to 3 landmarks away. Another trait they possess, and the most useful, is the ability to see chakra flow inside the body of the wielder and others. This ability allows members of this clan to employ their unique fighting style, the Gentle Fist.

It should also be noted that in order for the wielders of the eye to see their own chakra flow, they need to look at themselves in some way, which can alert them to changes in their chakra flow in terms of genjutsu.

Very good. To expand upon this a little, it is worth noting that the Byakugan requires a series of hand seals to activate it properly, contrary to most of the other Dojutsu, and can only be done passively after you've maintained a Hyuga bio for 1 month after the training has concluded. So keep that in mind for the foreseeable future.

Type: Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: 15 (+5 per turn to keep active)
Damage: N/A
Description: The kekkei genkai intrinsic to both the Hyūga and Ōtsutsuki clans—descendants of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki. Those who possess this dōjutsu have it manifested as eyes with featureless white irides and no visible pupils. And when activated, the pupils become more distinct and the veins near their temples bulge. To activate the dōjutsu, Hyuga but not Ōtsutsuki clan members are initially obliged to use a rather long and specific sequence of handseals: Horse → Tiger → Boar → Hare → Rat → Dog → Horse → Dog → Hare → Rat → Boar → Snake. But once activated, the dōjutsu user is endowed with a range of skills.

To start, an activated Byakugan gives the user a near 360º diameter field of vision bar one blind spot at the back of the neck, above the first thoracic vertebra. Its vision can penetrate through any solid objects or obstructions, and likewise remains unaffected by blinding interferences. But that being said, certain barriers and the like may distort its perception. In addition, it is able to follow high-speed movements, which enables those with this dōjutsu to analyze their foes' actions and better react to them. The Byakugan is also able to see chakra to a higher degree than the Sharingan and ergo, identify where a person's chakra signature originates from. Beyond that, it can discern certain types of clones from the real person. And its ability to see chakra is in fact so acute that those who possess this dōjutsu are even able to see the chakra pathway system and the 361 tenketsu that comprise it. The Hyūga clan has gone so far as to develop their unique Gentle Fist style in order to capitalize on this particular ability.

Note: Hyuga clan bios of at least Jonin rank become able to passively activate their dōjutsu upon one month having passed since Gentle Fist training concluded. Ōtsutsuki bios never need to expend a move in order to activate it.
Note: While traversing the NW, bios with activated Byakugan are able to see up to two 2 adjacent landmarks away while those of sage rank can see as far as three away, but this doesn't extend beyond an ocean landmark.

If you have any questions at this point, feel free to ask them and I'll be happy to address them.

Otherwise, we can move onto Gentle Fist. Give me a brief summary of this particular style and its relation to the Byakugan and why it fundamentally differentiates between the Hyuga and Otsutsuki in that the latter cannot utilize Gentle Fist, despite being able to use Byakugan.

Noted regarding the passive activation after one month, and I have no questions regarding the dojutsu itself, as it clearly explains its abilities.

In regard to Gentle Fist, it is the unique fighting style of the clan based on finger strikes, palm strikes, and blasts of chakra that aim to damage the opponent's chakra pathway. By inserting a small amount of their own chakra into the opponent to damage the internal organs or disturb their chakra flow, preventing them from using certain abilities such as ninjutsu and genjutsu.

According to the thread, the speed of gentle fist moves are supposed to be higher than strong fist moves as they allegedly exchange speed for precision, but I don't see any numerical values attached to that, so I'm going to say that text is just fluff.

As for why the Otsutsuki can't utilize Gentle Fist, I'm not sure why. It seems they could utilize it if taught, and I recall a moment in the Boruto movie where Momoshiki did something to the fighting style and disabled Naruto's tenkentsu briefly. I'm inclined to say that while they can see chakra pathways, they either do not know enough about the human constitution to accurately manipulate the opponent's tenketsu, or just don't see a need for it >.>

Very good. Some people have a tendency to think there's more to it than all that; as if there is some functional causation for why it doesn't work for them. But it does quite literally simply boil down to their lack of interest in it, or at best, their inability to have reasonable knowledge of its existence, as Gentle Fist is a staple of the Hyuga clan explicitly, meaning it was created and developed by them to what we know it to be now, indicating that the Otsutsuki would have no reasonable knowledge of its existence. There's an argument to be made as to whether or not they could "reasonably" learn it, but for the purposes of the game mechanics of the RP, the rule stands that it excludes them for the purposes of keeping it unique to the Hyuga.

All those fun little details out of the way, let's explore the first of our lineup for the techniques involved with it. With each, please take a brief moment to explore a small summary of the technique from your perspective and ask any questions you might have:

Type: Offensive
Rank: D
Range: Short
Chakra: 10
Damage: 20
Description: Targeting a single chakra point, the user delivers a two-fingered strike at the opponent, in an attempt to plug the chakra that's being used and halt its flow.

Type: Offensive
Rank: D
Range: Short
Chakra: 10
Damage: 20
Description: A mini barrage of gentle fist strikes that equal 16 in total. Rather than targeting chakra points, the strikes can hit multiple inner organs to cause more widespread damage overall.

Type: Defensive/Offensive
Rank: D-S
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: 10-40
Damage: 20-80
Description: A maneuver that obliges advanced chakra control—achieved via training in the Gentle Fist style—to release varied amounts of chakra from all of the user's 361 tenketsu, simultaneously. And in the midst of doing so, the user proceeds to rapidly spin and thereby, form a rotating shield of chakra with their own person at the epicenter. This functions as a defense to compensate for the Byakugan's blind spot as the released chakra blocks everything in a true 360° range and is able to send those struck by it careening back.

Note: D to C-rank is short-range while each rank thereafter will increase the diameter by 5 meters.

Glad to get started.

Gentle Fist: Tenketsu Needle

This technique is a simple two-finger strike to a targeted chakra point, allowing the user to plug the chakra and halt its flow.

Gentle Fist: Hyūga Style Taijutsu

This technique is a barrage of sixteen gentle fist strikes that, instead of targeting chakra points, the user strikes inner organs to cause massive damage.

Gentle Fist: Eight Trigrams Palm Revolving Heaven

Ah, the famed rotation. This technique sees the user release chakra from all 361 chakra points simultaneously as they spin rapidly. This forms a rotating shield of chakra, with the user at its epicenter, and serves as a defense to compensate for the Byakugan’s blind spot. Techniques struck by the rotating chakra sre sent careening back.

I'm glad that the range increases by five meters in diameter per rank increase. I do have some questions about this. Since this technique uses advanced chakra control, would that be shape manipulation? And if so, does this defend against elemental techniques of equal strength?

Secondly, the techniques that are sent back, do they go to the opponent? And is this affected only by techniques overpowered by the defense?

It does in fact classify as advanced shape manipulation, yes. And as you are implying, it would provide a sufficient counter to elemental techniques of equal strength.

As for the question regarding the careening effect, we can explore the definition of careen, which is simply "move swiftly and in an uncontrolled way in a specified direction." This implies that, while specified, the direction in which the observed thing is moving in is doing so in an uncontrolled fashion. So I would say you as the user don't inherently dictate the direction in which the technique is redirected, such that if the attack was launch at you from an arching angle, then the direction in which it would "careen" would be relative to the point of contact, not necessarily to follow its original path, nor to be sent toward the opponent. I would also say it would depend on the technique itself and what it is. An Earth technique which hurls a stone at you can be redirected, but a water, wind or lightning technique that sends something immaterial toward you would not be, but instead would simply disperse. In most cases, I would argue this is a relatively superfluous feature of the technique, but I'm sure there may be a unique context at some point in which it could potentially be used to your advantage in some way.

Up next!

Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short
Chakra: 15
Damage: 30
Description: A maneuver that in effect is akin to a halved variant of the Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms and accordingly, halts the flow of chakra that circulates in sixteen tenketsu of the foe's chakra pathway system. If the selected tenketsu are localized to a single limb, then the recipient of this move is rendered unable to use the targeted limb for ninjutsu for one turn, which includes those with applied passives. If the strikes are not all localized to a single limb, then the foe will instead be unable to use chakra surges of S-rank and higher for one turn. Beyond those effects, the usage of this maneuver will reduce the victim's chakra supply and any accumulated senjutsu chakra by 5% per use.

Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short
Chakra: 15
Damage: 30
Description: The user runs toward an enemy at full speed before jumping and hitting one of the foe’s vital organs. Alternatively, the user may jump from a high distance, then descend into the palm attack After being hit, the target will incur a decrease to their base speed.

Note: Base speed is reduced by 1 level per use and the effect lasts for up to five turns.

Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short
Chakra: 15
Damage: 30
Description: The user grabs the opponent's extended arm, flips them around, then strikes them thrice on the back with enough force to send them flying.

Gentle Fist: Eight Trigrams Sixteen Palms

Ohh. More palm goodies. This technique allows the user to halt the flow of chakra that circulates through the sixteen tenketsu in the opponent’s chakra pathway. If the tenketsu struck aree in a single limb, then it will be unable to use ninjutsu for one turn, including passive techniques. If the strikes aren’t in the same area, then the target will be unable to use shakra surges of S-rank and higher for one turn. Additionally, this technique will reduce the target’s chakra supply or senjutsu pool by 5% each time it is used.

For this one, I wanted to ask if it's used alongside another chakra-less taijutsu or as a technique in and of itself. Besides mentioning Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms, the technique itself doesn't have a physical attack portion, just the effects. Given the wording, I'm assuming it is used as a stand-alone technique that utilizes whatever attack method the Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms utilizes.

Gentle Fist: Eight Trigrams Aerial Attack

This technique allows the user to either run towards an enemy at full speed, then jump and hit one of their vital organs, or jump from a higher elevation and descend on the target with a palm attack. After being hit, the target’s base speed will be reduced by 1 level for five turns. Each time the technique is used successfully reduces the opponent’s base speed.

I'm assuming this technique will follow the rule about being unable to reduce the opponent’s base speed by more than 40%

Gentle Fist: Byakugan Three Strikes

A basic technique where the user grabs the opponent’s extended arm, flips them around, and then strikes them twice on the back to send them flying. This is pretty self-explanatory.

For GF: Sixteen Palms, your assessment would be correct. The technique operates as a standalone and the overall procedure of application is consistent with that of its sibling Thirty-two Palm variant, of which we will be going over here in a moment. Nothing too flashy, of course.

For Aerial Attack, correct. Universal rules still apply regardless of descriptive elements lacking clarification in any technique, so the 40% policy applies in this case.

Alright, now as previously mentioned and promised, here's the follow up!:

Type: Offensive
Rank: B
Range: Short
Chakra: 20
Damage: 40
Description: A maneuver that in effect is akin to a halved variant of the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms and accordingly, halts the flow of chakra that circulates in thirty-two tenketsu of the foe's chakra pathway system. The recipient of this move will be rendered unable to use more than 50 chakra in individual attacks, which includes those with applied passives, for three turns. Beyond that effect, the usage of this maneuver will reduce the victim's chakra supply and any accumulated senjutsu chakra by 10% for two turns.

Type: Offensive
Rank: B
Range: Short
Chakra: 20
Damage: 40
Description: This attack consists of a quick, precise thrust of the user's palm to an opponent's body. Like other Gentle Fist techniques, it sends chakra into the target to cause internal damage that paralyzes them for one turn.

Type: Defensive
Rank: B
Range: Short
Chakra: 20
Damage: N/A (+10 if the opponent makes direct contact)
Description: The user exerts chakra from several tenketsu from a single part of their body, this chakra is gathered roughly ten centimeters away from the user's skin and forms a small shield of chakra, no bigger than twice the size of an average palm conveniently useable as a way to block tai/kenjutsu attacks(upto B-Rank) but is weak to elemental techniques as it's merely raw chakra which does not require advanced chakra manipulation. If the opponent makes physical contact with the shield they will suffer slight damage across the part of their skin which connected with it. The shield itself is no bigger than twice the size of an average palm and can block Tai/Kenjutsu attacks up to B-Rank as well as Elemental attacks up to C-Rank within reason.

Note: Useable five times per event

Thanks for answering those questions I had.

Gentle Fist: Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms

Ah, so Sixteen Palms was a half variant of a half variant lol. Thirty-Two Palms allows the user to halt the flow of the opponent's chakra that circulates in thirty-two of the tenketsu, rendering them unable to use more than 50 chakra in individual attacks. This includes passive techniques and lasts for three turns. Additionally, the opponent's chakra supply and senjutsu pool will be reduced by 10% for two turns.

Gentle Fist: Palm Bottom

A simple attack that has the user execute a precise thrust of the palm at the opponent's body, sending chakra into them on contact that causes internal damage and paralysis for one turn.

Gentle Fist: Block

A neat defensive technique that has the user release chakra from several tenketsu from a single part of the body, which is gathered mere centimeters away from the user's skin for form a shield of chakra no bigger than twice the size on a palm. This shield is mainly used to block incoming physical attacks up to B rank (40 damage) and is weak to elemental techniques since it doesn't use advanced chakra manipulation, allowing it to only block C ranked techniques (20 damage). Opponents that make contact with the shield will suffer damage from it.

Heyo!

(Jūho: Tamashii Baindingu Saakuru) - Gentle Step: Soul Binding Circle

Type: Offensive
Rank: B
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra: 20
Damage: 40
Description: The user channels chakra into one of their feet. Once they do, they will quickly stomp the ground and in the same motion, release a wave of chakra that quickly travels above ground surface. More specifically, the chakra manifests as a white omnidirectional ring that, upon contact with an enemy's body, the chakra will briefly paralyze their feet. It is similar to Palm Heel Strike, insofar as it causes one's muscles to be slightly damaged. This can also be applied through a kick, should it connect with the target, and forces the user's chakra into a specific bodily area with even more potent effects. The attack, itself, lacks tangible properties and ergo, phases through physical techniques (e.g., Earth and Water) without being hindered.

Note: Each application is useable only twice per battle.
Note: Paralysis lasts one or two turns—first and second applications, respectively.
Note: Courtesy of Nakiri.
(Jūken: Hakkeshou Kuuten) - Gentle Fist: Eight Trigrams Palm Grating Heaven
Type: Offensive/Defensive
Rank: B-S
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: 20-40
Damage: 40-80
Description: A variant of Eight Trigrams Palm Revolving Heaven whereby the user follows the same process but also shapes the outputted chakra into razor sharp blades. Ergo, those struck by it are not repelled by concussive force but are instead subjected to being reduced to small shreds by coming into contact with what is akin to a giant revolving grater.

Note: B-rank is short-range while each rank thereafter increase the range by one level.
Jūkenpō/Fūton: Tekken no Shippuu) – Gentle Fist Style/Wind Release: Gale Fist
Type: Supplementary
Rank: B
Range: Self
Chakra: 20
Damage: N/A (+10 to Gentle Fist)
Description: One of the most basic weaknesses of Gentle Fist is it's raw nature, unable to withstand elemental chakra of the same level unless it possesses a greater density or an advanced shape-.. this technique has been developed to overcome said weakness. Just before executing a Gentle Fist technique and in the same timeframe a Hyuuga converts the raw chakra to wind chakra a split second before exerting it. Due to the nature given to the chakra it gains a slight cutting ability aswell as a slight gusting force behind it but due to the conversion of the nature of the chakra into wind chakra it loses it's ability to deal internal damage and solely damages the target externally, making this technique most suited towards ranged Gentle Fist techniques that do not rely on internal damage in the first place. This technique however can only be utilized in combination with gentle fist techniques that do not require advanced shape manipulation nor the ones that possess an increased density such as the rotation techniques.

Note: Requires mastery of Gentle Fist.
Note: No Gentle Fist above A-Rank in the next turn.
Note: Usable four times per battle with a one turn cooldown inbetween uses.
Note: Courtesy of Tybone

Talk to me about these bad bois.

(Jūho: Tamashii Baindingu Saakuru) - Gentle Step: Soul Binding Circle

This technique has you channel chakra into the feet and quickly sotmp the ground, releasing a wave of chakra at the same time that quickly travels above the surface. The released chakra takes the form of an omnidirectional ring that paralyzes the opponent's feet on contact. Instead of being released through the ground, it can be released through a kick that forces chakra into an opponent on contact to paralyze them. If released through the ground, then the paralysis lasts one turn, whereas if channeled into the opponent through direct contact, then the paralysis lasts for two turns.

That last line confuses me a bit about the chakra passing through physical techniques without being hindered. I'm assuming it is that if the opponent tried to dodge by raising the earth or flooding the surroundings with water, then the ring would continue on or something, but at that point it seems it would become a chakra clash or something.

(Jūken: Hakkeshou Kuuten) - Gentle Fist: Eight Trigrams Palm Grating Heaven

Yet another Eight Trigrams Palm technique that shapes chakra into razor-sharp blades that repel those struck and "rips them to shreds".

Jūkenpō/Fūton: Tekken no Shippuu) – Gentle Fist Style/Wind Release: Gale Fist

A wonderful technique that allows a Hyuuga to convert their raw chakra into wind chakra just before using a gentle fist technique. This causes the technique to gain slight cutting ability and slight gusting force in exchange for its ability to deal internal damage. This makes it best suited for use alongside Gentle Fist techniques that don't deal internal damage in the first place. This technique can only be utilized alongside techniques that don't use advanced shape manipulation or rotation-based techniques.

Agreed on chakra clash.

(Shugohakke Rokujūyon Shō) - Protecting Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms

Type: Offensive/Defensive
Rank: A
Range: Short
Chakra: 30
Damage: 60
Description: A potent Gentle Fist maneuver that capitalizes on the user's Byakugan to envision an Eight Trigrams circle, which sets the stage for the foe within this circle to be hit by a huge series of precise strikes aimed at sixty-four tenketsu that comprise a portion of their chakra pathway system. Each successful strike is able to be performed at 1.5x the user's current speed and halts the flow of chakra that ordinarily passes through the given tenketsu and makes chakra control a much harder endeavor. The recipient of this move will be rendered unable to user more than 35 chakra in individual attacks, which includes those with applied passives, for two turns. Beyond that effect, the usage of this maneuver will reduce the victim's chakra supply and any accumulated senjutsu chakra by 25% for four turns.

Strike tenketsu and halt the opponent's flow of chakra, limiting their techniques and chakra.

(Juken: Hakkeshō Hachimon Hougeki) - Gentle Fist: Eight Triagrams Eight Gates Assault

Type: Offensive
Rank: A
Range: Short
Chakra: 30
Damage: 60
Description: A specialized derivative of Eight Trigrams that targets the tenketsu specific to the Eight Inner Gates (EIG) mode. The user strikes the gates one by one with their gentle fist taijutsu to completely halt the flow of chakra that would otherwise pass through. This effectively enables the user to prevent the tenketsu from being opened or even close any tenketsu that are opened. In addition, closing an individual tenketsu will prevent the target from not only being able to access the corresponding gate but any higher gate as well. Conversely, targeting a higher gate will not curtail one's access to lower gates.

Close the EIGHT INNER GATES, if you fast enough ;) Which you are >_>

(Jūken: Ichigekimi) - Gentle Fist: One blow Body

Type: Offensive
Rank: A
Range: Short
Chakra: 30
Damage: 60
Description: A technique born from the Hyuga clan's intrinsic ability to expel chakra from every tenketsu on their body, a clan member can hit their opponent with a blast of chakra that will send them flying away from the user. It was also shown that this technique can be used with pin-point accuracy to target the weak point of a technique exemplified when Neji Hyūga was trapped by Kisame Hoshigaki's Water Prison Technique, and was able to dispel it.

Create a blast of chakra by releasing chakra from every tenketsu on your body - full body surge say what?
