Writer's perspective: So Kishi could bring him back in time for the happy ending. It would suck if he was not saved. Characters' perspective: His Mokuton probably made Zetsu stronger.

We don't. All we need to know is that they fought. We don't need the details like we did of Hashirama vs Madara. Also, assuming they have the same powers as Naruto and Sasuke currently, it would not be as interesting to watch because we'd see no new tactics and techniques; it'd be Naruto vs Sasuke.

I'd say Tobirama > Kakashi and Gai. 3rd Raikage > 4th Raikage. Muu and Deidara > Oonoki. Cee > Omoi Mangetsu > Zabuza (he was the leader and could wield every sword).

That's debatable. I think that comes down to Base Bee vs Darui. I think Darui is a better fighter because he has shown more intelligence in analytical abilities, he has Black Lightning and he has a Kekkei Genkai (not to mention Suiton and Raiton).

Strongest? Tsunade. I doubt the others can punch as hard as her. Best in battle? Orochimaru. He has control over Tobirama, Minato and Hiruzen and a weak version of Hashirama.

None of those would suit his fighting style. Shikamaru's unique trait is that he only has one jutsu (not including the variants) but can make so many different tactics using it. It's like if Light or Lelouch kept getting power ups as their series went on.

Too distracting from the main storyline. Not in anyway relevant to the plot. Would take away the suspense and awesome-ness of Gai's assault.
