what can any of them do to help the situation that some one on the battlefield cannot?

I just finished watching Naruto OVA 9: A Chunin Exam of Flames! Naruto Vs. Konohamaru. Everybody said at the end that Naruto can be a chunin anytime, but Konohamaru said that Naruto is now his subordinate, since he's now chunin, apparently. So what is Naruto's current rank?
