I would assume he still has some chakra from the kyuubi Madara took since he was able to store the chakra given to him by the other bijuu.

I am hoping he lost control like obito did at first and his brother had to defeat. Sage and his brother must battle. I want to see that fight more than any other now.

I think after they sealed the juubi into them the sages brother could not control it and was killed by the So6P. Which is why his brother was forgotten.
