Do you mean that he entered in earlier than 7? It doesn't seem accurate since at the start of the serie, Naruto was 12, and Iruka said he failed 2 previous exams, so he couldn't have started academy earlier than Sasuke

I think its possibly he attempted the exam etc earlier than normal before sasuke, twice before, and failed both times
Minato graduated at 10, kakashi at 5, and Itachi at like 7? if I recall.. apparently you can graduate earlier than normal..maybe naruto simply attempted that and failed

Also, according to the manga the chunnin exam's are held twice a year, we're speculating under the assumption the academy grad happens once a year when it could be twice

I definitely HIGHLY doubt sasuke, neji etc all failed.. they were extraordinary geniuses ... team work wouldn't have held them back imo, as team skills come into play when becoming a chunnin (leading a squad)

I think Sasuke trained himself for years

^The fact Sasuke's grades were in first place among the 27 students in the academy every time show Sasuke didn't fail once.

So, my best guess is Sasuke didn't go to the academy between those years....he instead trained himself in order to kill Itachi and improve his skills over the years by himself........i think he show the academy as a place that will hold him back from

^Kakashi was even surprised that a Genin like Sasuke had enough Chakra to use Fire Style and can use the technique very well.

^His level of Taijutsu wasn't on a Genin level......it was enough to fight Kakashi and touch the bells Kakashi had.

^Sasuke was even skill enough to use two C-rank Jutsus at the same time "Fire Release: Dragon Fire Technique" and "Manipulating Windmill Triple Blades" with his Sharingan

This shows Sasuke skills were not taught him in the academy, but that he trained himself for years before going back to the academy.

The fire one was taught to him by his dad for Sasuke to prove he was a true Uchiha

Yeaa, its more likely to assume Sasuke didn't try entering at an earlier age, rather than think he failed.. he was too much of a genius to fail the academy grad

But if its true there is 2exams every year, it's even more weird that Sasuke had to wait 5years to become genin, since he has 10possibilities, and failed all that? I think Kishi probably doesn't care about timeline. It's the only possible answer U_U

Hm nice explanation. True that Sasuke's skills were too good for a genin, but so were Neji's as well for example considered as a genius and he had no reason to flee away during academy time

We can't say for sure what happened after the massacre, so maybe it's from that moment that he began to fail and no i'm starting a flame war :p

Began to fail?, nothing states this and if anything the opposite.

Also we see shikamaru and choji also at the academy around the time of joining

We later see more recognisable faces and the one sitting on sasuke's row looks like naruto because of the goggles and hair

They all graduated the same year

less likely then Sasuke.
Sasuke probably tried many time but wasnt good enough and failed, Naruto was not allowed to start at that young age because he was unstable bcs of the fox is only logical conclusion.

Naruto was unstable? I think as a grad test it should be fair, regardless the ninja should be allowed to do the test, Naruto said that every year he failed the exam test was to do make a clone? if that's the case, why would sasuke ever have problems with such a thing?

Okay, you also need to understand that Sasuke improved the Fire Style over the years and Fugaku only showed how do Katon"Fire Style" not teach him. :hint:

Hiruzen planned it from the start that Naruto and Sasuke would be in the same team, because everytime Kurama's chakra would've gone out of control, Sasuke would have been able to suppress its chakra if he had enough mastery of his sharingan. Actually Sasuke did it once:

It was used as a coming of age test, not proof he is an Uchiha. xd

I just ignore databook ages now. Just look at chapter 599 and you'll see major flaws.

Kakashi became a chuunin at 6, and Obito became a Genin at 9. Yet they both took the Chunin exam at the same time, which means that Obito took the Chuunin exam before he became a Genin. LOL

Also, we saw Anko and Hayate take the same exam, which means that they were only 1 and 3 years old when they took that exam, which completely contradicts with their databook facts (Anko became Genin at 10, Hayate at 12).

Bottom line: Don't trust ages in the Naruto world. Kishi doesn't know how to use it.

I think these theorys are much more complicated then need be. Here is mine.

The academy period is five years that's basic for everyone. on this time period the teachers teach the students the basic requirements for being a shinobi. Then of course especially at later years of the academy each student trains by himself when not in school. For example Sasuke learned his fire release, Shino to control his bugs, Kiba his combo attacks with Akamaru and Naruto learned... to do a harem...

How come Itachi graduated at 7 then? Well itachi was one of the most talented seven year olds Konoha has ever seen. He was an incredibly quick study and trained a lot on his own. This made him easily surpass the knowledge required to graduate LONG before kids his own age who most likely took 5 years like everyone else. That's why an exception was made for him. It's most likely not the first time this has happend and most likely not the last. But it isn't something that is usually done.

So Sasuke is disapointed that he is "just" the top of his class with perfect grades. But still isn't good enough to graduate early. This also explains why it seems as if all rookie nine graduated simultaneously. They did.

Also do note that Team Gai is one year older then the other k12, they graduated a year before the others.
