i hope you don't think i was coming off rude, as i didn't mean to. but that really is a question you could ask as a whole or as each and every individual and never get a proper consensus lol.

really? i ultimately encourage you to do so! i truly is(in my opinion of course lol) is by far one of the founding stones of what we have today as far as anime and manga. i will admit, it is dark and gory and it does display ample amounts of elements of drug use and sexual content, but overall it is amazing.

wow just reading that makes me want to watch it even more

Personally I do think DBZ is overrated. Was it bad? No, but when you think about it there really wasn't much of a plot to it. Everything was "beat the bad guy", "Save the earth", etc. Sure, the fights were cool, but I think Yu Yu Hakusho had similar (though not nearly as powerful) fights that were a lot more badass and a lot more intelligent. When it comes to action I feel there are way better ones to choose from. The characters, while likeable, weren't that deep either. I know I liked Vegeta, Piccolo, and Trunks, but even I can admit that they weren't nearly as deep as they could've been.

Different times, different styles, different audience target.
This one has hit the spot...
Also,it was the only most advertised anime back then and it was something new and unique for the people!

Dragon Ball

You are saying that it has no plot? Maybe not the US censored one.

Dragon ball sence the very beginning was pure plot and epicness.
Many, many mangas are inspired by its mere plot.

One Piece: Sence the begining of dragonball they were looking for
the dragonballs (aka treasure)

Naruto: An orphan kid with a beast inside him. Goku had Ozaru (Great Ape) and Naruto Kurama.
Now Naruto can turn into a Super Saiyan alike thing.

Bleach: Powers flying everywhere, need I say more?

Dragon Ball Z alone its a master piece. But to really understand it
you have to watch Dragon ball first & never ever watch Dragonball Z kai.

Please more respect to thebet series of all time.

Dragon Ball part 1 had more of a "plot" but even then it was still pretty standard Shounen fare. But at least part 1 had the cool martial arts stuff along with the Shounen energy combat so that was pretty awesome. But DBZ? I don't mean to be rude here but I personally cannot deem it a masterpiece, at least not compared to something like Fullmetal Alchemist or One Piece in terms of Shounen and especially not as an anime itself. And the best series of all time is really exaggerating, I know everyone has different tastes but objectively speaking I'd deem Code Geass or Clannad as much higher, though those are vastly different styles after all.

Dragon ball does hold its place as one of the big original Shounens and it does serve as an inspiration to many of the popular Shounens today, this is true. But objectively speaking, most particularly with Z, I cannot see what's so great about it. Character development (besides Vegeta's and Piccolo's) seems very minimal aside from DB part 1, the plot is predictable and not complex by any means, the action looks cool but follows the typical Shounen procedure of the characters getting way too powerful way too fast. Now this alone is not a bad thing, as in Gurren Lagann it goes from episode 1 being like building buster status to episode 27 tossing around galaxies, but that is mecha and the theme of that was screwing logic since the very beginning. But in DBZ it seems like the power-ups are for the sake of trying too hard to be strong, like the main villain of the previous arc literally becomes fodder the moment the next arc starts and it just seems too convenient.

As you guys can see i love DBZ. It was great up until the guy who originally wrote it stopped writing it. That was when the GT saga started. Now they are just redoing it over as kai. But i think its a great anime, it was the first anime i ever watched, read, and played. Plus my dad introduced it to me.

Definitely a fan of the anime, which is what I grew up with in my early teenage years. I watched the dubbed versions mainly but did watch a few subbed Japanese versions set during the cell games saga just as Gohan turned SSJ2 but definitely want to go through and watch subbed Japanese. I recently went through and watched all DBZ episodes and sure it doesn't feel the same as when I was 14 but hey still an awesome anime!

Never watched DB or DGT but want to see both series.

Aren't the Kai versions meant to stay true to the manga? I heard they are more in line with the manga.

How can you even state that DBZ is overrated when it's done so much for the Anime world. It's the father of all Anime and it should be respected by every single Anime and Manga fan. So many top Anime and Manga wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for the illustrious franchise. DBZ is the only Anime/Manga to achieve Legendary status! and people around the world still vote Dragon Ball the #1 World Class Anime and Manga after 27 years since the first DB Manga was released!! This is what makes DBZ unparalleled, as it's the only Legendary Anime/Manga and the feats that it has achieved! It revolutionized the Anime world!!

Naruto wouldn't have even existed if it wasn't for the illustrious franchise.

Akira Toriyama's most famous creation, Dragonball became an anime and for Kishimoto this spawned a whole new interest in Manga and Shonen Jump. Near the end of Elementary school, Masashi Kishimoto was strictly a Dragonball fan, he recalls how he was so obsessed with Akira Toriyama, "He was like a god to me, I was constantly drawing characters that appear in Dragonball." At this stage in his life Kishimoto did not recieve an allowance to buy the 190 Yen Jumps, and would have to rely on a friend to show him jump to get his Dragonball fix. It was at this stage in his life that Masashi Kishimoto made a decision that he is not regretting now, and many of his fans are thankful for. He started to think to himself that "Manga sure is great" and that he wanted to become a famous Mangaka like Akira Toriyama. Kishimoto created his first manga around this time entitled "Hiatari-kun", a story revolving around a "Shadow ninja boy".

Still in elementary school, Kishimoto was still obsessed with Akira Toriyama and would spend all of his extra time making his drawings look exactly like his idols. It was then that he saw a game that Akira Toriyama helped develop called "Dragon Quest". The drawings were amazing, but unfortunately for Masashi Kishimoto he did not own a Famicon (Nintendo), which every other kid in his class seemed to own. He certainly could not ask his parents for something of this nature, everytime his father heard the word "Video Game" he would tell Kishimoto to go study. It was then that his twin brother devised a plan to get a Famicon from someone else, but could someone willing to give away something worth 10,000 Yen possibly exist, he did and Masashi Kishimoto began to view this friend as a god.
After he learned of "Akira", Masashi Kishimoto's drawings changed in a big way. He spent hours studying and trying to understand.
Today everything has worked out for Masashi Kishimoto, his dreams of becoming a famous Jump mangaka have come true, his story about that shadow ninja boy, Naruto has become one of the best selling and most popular mangas worldwide. He has certainly shown that he can draw with the best of them, and despite all the adversities, he has succeeded. Masashi Kishimoto is a true inspiration, a true role model, and will go down in history as one of the best and this would have not happened if it wasn't for Akira Toriyama.

Dragon Ball will forever be the greatest Anime/Manga off all time. It's unsurpassable as no other Anime/Manga will achieve the feats that Dragon Ball has achieved. Another Anime/Manga may become Legendary, but Dragon Ball was the FIRST Anime/Manga to become Legendary.

Sure it's influential but it's not the greatest anime, there's no such thing as the greatest anime and yeah looking back it's just musclebound freaks with glowing hair punching each other, but i'll do say it is entertaining

@Narutoboss222:
Whatever, if a different series had been the 'father of anime' and it sucked, would you still say that it's the best? I never said that it wasn't influential and inspiring, I said that it had several flaws, so it shouldn't be 'worshipped' as the best.

Every Anime has it's flaws but DBZ deserves to be the greatest Anime/Manga because of what it has accomplished in the Anime world.

If it has flaws stop praising it like it's the best thing ever. Saying that it's the best because of feats is pathetic, I would rather evaluate a series for its plot, characters, etc. Not only that, but DBZ will be surpassed by other anime eventually. One Piece has already surpassed it in sales, what's next? :)

Oh the irony...
As for the rest of your post, I suggest that you visit myanimelist, for instance, so that you see how people rate anime there. Here's a hint, it's not based on feats.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but you have to think about the time when DB came out. You probably like other Anime better because of the animation. DB never had the technology then to make it flashy and amazing. DB never had the best of story lines, but that's the only flaw there is in the franchise. Saying that there is several flaws is going over board. How can you say that the characters are bad lol. Do you know how many Anime's have been influenced by DB characters! Sorry but DB will never be surpassed because of the mind blowing feats it has achieved. DB is still going strong after 27 years kid!

This will be my last post towards you, there's no point in arguing with a fanboy.
I said that it was the best at its time.
Story line is not the only flaw in the series, I suggest that you watch it again.
I did not say that the characters were bad.
You are just stupid kid. I suggest you learn more about DB instead of overrating the Anime. You no nothing. End of story.
Lastly, I'm not a kid and I suggest that you learn more about the english language...;)

I'm the fanboy? lol I'm just stating the truth kid, so if you can't take the truth i suggest you log off and learn more about life in general. The story line was only the major flaw in the illustrious franchise kid. I would advise you to watch the series all over again, so you can understand the phenomenal franchise. I suggest you talk about other Anime's that are overrated as you fail miserably on DB in general.
