Where did this misconception of Hidan come from??

who started this misconception that hidan is weak. This is not the case; It is in fact stated that Hidan is slow because of that massive ass scythe he has to carry around; this was even stated by Hidan himself. Is it the fact that The Zombie team got trolled, Kakazu by Naruto and Hidan by shikamaru, I honestly get it [ Kishi stated in the databook that Hidan's scythe had more too it then what he got to show us].
You also have to remember that Hidan is arrogant A.F. so it's not that hidan is weak it is the fact that he is so arrogant because of his immortality and that has caused him to use little to no strategy in battle. so i just want to set the record straight hidan is not weak.
PLUS hidan has tremendous acrobatic prowess and dexterity in avoiding attacks, if hidan was weak he would have not been able to fight: asuma,team asuma,two extra fodder ninja, and kakashi.

he's a good kenjutsu user and his curse is a one shot kill if he pierces your skin, which is not that hard according to shikamaru himself due to the three big blades on the scythe. so yeah he's deceptively strong.

Yeah he isn't weak, but his arrogance and his sole use of taijutsu puts him st an advantage....someone like Temari could just cut him to pieces from a distance if he isn't cautious

I feel like his immortality shouldnt have been the only thing why he stood out in the akatsuki
He needed to be a mid taijutsi,mid genjutsu,summoner
He could someone some demons from his religion (Yashim if i believe) and the biggest summon Yashim himself
His genjutsu could have been to be traped inside Yashims world,where for instance he could have put Shikamaru and there he would see Azuma's soul trapped
And taijustsu just to give him some close combat effectiveness

Very very true, i don't see how people believe Hidan to be weak

He doesn't SEEM that strong, that's why. He doesn't have powerful ninjutsu like Rasengan or Chidori or Jinton and his offense mostly consists of swinging a scythe around. And he's not an overwhelming speedster like Lee or Sasuke either. But I think people miss the fact that his scythe isn't designed to kill but to pierce skin like Shikamaru said. He's a sneaky guy so people don't realize how dangerous he is.

That said he still was at Asumas level, but it's not like Asuma is that good. On the other hand, whoever fights Hidan with no knowledge will most likely lose to him. But that doesn't make him stronger than that person.

But that doesn't make him stronger than that person.

True but that fact that he was able to fight Asuma then Kakashi + Shika-Ino-Cho or however it goes, just goes to show even with that big ass scythe the dude is fast as hell now imagine him with that scythe. Now don't get me wrong i don't believe his is the strongest or anything i just wanted to know how is was ranked weakest in akatsuki, thats all.

Deidara barged into the Sand Village and took their Kazekage (while showing the ability to one shot a village), Sasori owned Kankuro was said said to have solo'd a village and have his poison hyped by a medical war veteran, Kakuzu lived for a crap load of time and was a high ranking member of his village even before gaining Earth Grudge, and you get what I mean.

But really Kishi was supposed to develop Hidan more than he did (I think he said this in a databook). I mean the guy was obviously trolled when his steel cable got 1 shot by an explosive tag before he ever got a chance to fight with it in the forest.
