It depends what you call air. We need the mixture of gases (which I would call air) rather than pure oxygen. If we had pure oxygen it would prevent the diffusion of gases through the lung tissue separating the alveoli and capillaries (more commonly referred to as gas exchange).
I don't think I could survive without my alarm clock. I tend to sleep through anything except the horrid wake-up tone it plays.
