The part about him being a former shell of himself, it's when Tobi still pretended to be Madara. he means Madara was stronger than him and if he hadn't said this they would wonder why Madara suddenly dropped in power and question his identity I guess

Great theory there are few holes,like if tobi is madara and if it means madara was immortal then how was he revived with impure world resurrection,as it requires the soul to be in the pure world and the person must be dead in order to be revived.For example that's why Hidan couldn't be revived according to kakuzu.
Here is one of my theories that i think explains the identity of tobi:
Well the manga clearly states these facts upfront:
1)Nagato awakened his rinnegan first when his parents died.
2)Madara was not in possesion of rinnegan when he battled Hashi.
3)Rinnegan has the power to bring back the dead.
4)Tobi "claims" to have given the rinnegan to nagato.
5)madara obtained senju dna during his battle with hashi,it is evident from one of kabuto's statements idk from which chapter.(considering senju DNa a requirement for rinnegan)
Based on these facts I would like to propose a hypothesis on the matters at hand,namely rinnegans evolution ,nagato and madara's possesion of it and the identity of tobi.
It is clearly stated in the manga that madara had awakened his rinnegan shortly before his death.
So what I think happened is that when he awakened his rinnegan he had already planned on putting the eye of moon plan in motion,as shown fro his knowledge about the plan.
Thus foreseeing his death,maybe due to his injuries from his battle with hashi, he as a last deperate measure used "Samsara of heavenly life" to bring back to life someone who was loyal to him to bring him back to life after his death.
And I hypothise that this is the person who we know as tobi.Now according to this the most appropriate candidate would be Izuna,who had already died,assumption,to entrust his rinnegan.
But Izuna could not carry the rinnegan as he didn't have the senju DNA like so he implanted into Nagato's eyes,who as an uzumaki had the required quality.
This also explains the fighting prowess of tobi as izuna was said to be equal to his brother.
This also explains why he holds a grudge against Uchiha for having betrayed his brother whom he was loyal towards.It also explains how he states that Izuna had willingly given his eyes to madara,because well he was him.
It also explains why he was afraid when kabuto had shown him madara's body using edo tensei.
So net result :
1)Tobi is none other than Izuna.
2)It was tobi who had given nagato his rinnegan.
3)Senju DNA was required to activate rinnegan(1 more hypothises because since rinnegan was so6p's eyes it can be assumed it required both his life force as well as his physical energy to activate it.hence both the brothers attributes were required,hence the above hypothesis)

Nice thoery bro..I always thought that Tobi is Madara vessel and obito is the host..remember that oro always did experiments and oro was part of akatski and he also created another "wood element user" I forgot his name..but wouldn't u need the 1st DNA to create another "wood element user"...and y have a Kakashi saga y not have a gai saga..zetsu is half senju half uchiha that's y u only see white goo instead of black his uchiha blood is dominant than senju blood..and isn't it suspect that we didnt see wat oro did while he was with akatski think bout it...BUT NICE THREAD HOMI KEEP UP WITH THE THEORY'S ...

Okay, I know there are alot of joke theories about Tobi being the Ramen Guy. People say it's just a joke, they say it's trolling, but IT'S NOT! It's serious shit! I think Tobi really IS The Ramen Guy! No joke! IF you read this theory you'll realize that Tobi...actually might be the Ramen Guy!
First, look at this picture of the Ramen Guy:
Now, look at Tobi:
Now if you look, you can see Tobi's hair and his eyes but you can't see the Ramen Guy's hair or eyes! Seeing these would give away that he's Tobi! Nobody else in the ENTIRE Narutoverse has it so you can't see both their hair or their eyes.
Now, here's the whole story. When the Ramen Guy was around 13, he tried to become a shinobi, but he lacked the skill and his arms got cut off by an enemy shinobi. Later on, Madara found the Ramen Guy and gave him Zetsu arms. Madara's evil chakra scared the Ramen Guy away. So, the Ramen Guy decided to give up an being ninja to sell ramen! But, over the years, the Ramen Guy became insulted. His policy was to give away free ramen all the time, but over time people didn't even give a a shit about him. They just used him for free ramen, never giving him any respect. So, he plotted to take over the world, so he sought out Madara and they made a plan together. The Moon's Eye Plan. The Ramen Guy wants to put everyone under his control and make them all become ramen guys! He wants to make them see how it feels making ramen 24/7!
So, after Madara trained the Ramen Guy(Tobi) and made him stronger, the Ramen Guy(Tobi) began his work undercover. He continued his job as a ramen guy and spied on Naruto. And, here's why Tobi knows so much about the world. Since he's a ramen guy, people top by at the shop all the time and tell them about their stories while they're there. Hell, Jiraiya's been there, I'm sure alot of famous and renowned and powerful shinobi have been there. So that's how Tobi knows all this stuff, cuz he's the ****ing Ramen Guy!
Tobi said that he would become complete when he sealed the Juubi inside himself. Maybe he means his real arms might come back by being the Juubi jinchuriki!
It's the Ramen Guy's destiny to become the next Rikudou!
Also, the Ramen Guy's real name is Teuchi Ichiraku. Now what's interesting, is that "Teuchi" means "killing someone with one's bare hands." This makes sense, as in this chapter, you see Tobi strangling a guard to death with his bare hands.:
This theory makes WAAAAAAAY more sense than all those other retard theories out there.
And also, the Ramen Guy wasn't shown during Tobi's attack on the village! Sure you could argue that he just wasn't shown cuz we're supposed to think he's an irrelevant character, but why didn't Kishi at least show him giving ramen to scared villagers? Because he wasn't there to do it. Because he's Tobi!
