In this thread I plan to illustrate my belief that Wood Release is actually a Kekkei Tota, “similar” to Dust Release. Its difference is… the 3 types of nature transformations used to perform the jutsu.
SPECIAL NOTE: Please look at the following manga evidence, that states Yang Release is one of the Elemental Nature powers ("With his Yin-Yang Elemental Power he created the Nine Beasts from the Ten-Tails chakra.") This is the Basis of my arguement:
BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE:
THEORY: Wood Release = Earth element nature + Water element nature + YANG natured chakra
ASSUMPTION: Vitality in “life” cannot be created without the usage of Yang Chakra

SUPPORTING EVIDENCE #2: The Sage’s “Creation of All Things”
SUMMARY: Wood Release uses a 3rd (Non-Elemental) chakra nature, Yang Release
Final Note: If you do NOT agree (Wood Release = Kekkei Tota), please provide manga evidence of a jutsu that creates vitality/life without using Yang Release chakra. I’ll be waiting… Tis All.

Many people are saying that Yin and Yang are not ELEMENTS so they aren't considered in Kekkei Genkei. Please remember:
By defn, a Kekkei Genkei is not 2 "Elements" but 2 "Nature transformations". BOTH YIN AND YANG ARE NON-ELEMENTAL NATURE TRANSFORMATIONS. Just because Yin and Yang are non-elemental doesn't mean they are considered in Kekkei Genkai.

Eye Dojutsus obviously are Kekkei Genkei without "elements"... as in the case of Sharigan. The sharigan uses YIN based chakra, and is a Kekkei Genkei.

This is the entire point of the thread i am making! And Wood Release definetally uses YANG Chakra! Think about it.
There is an advanced variant of kekkei genkai known as kekkei tōta, which is a combination of three different nature transformations. Nature transformations are both Elemental and Non-Elemental. (this does NOT say that Kekkei Genkai are only "elemental" nature transformations)
Aside from the five basic types of nature transformation, there is also a sixth type: the Yin (陰, In), the basis of imagination and spiritual energy, used to perform Yin Release (陰遁, Inton); and the Yang (陽, Yō), the basis of vitality and physical energy, used to perform Yang Release (陽遁, Yōton). Together, they are used to perform Yin–Yang Release (陰陽遁, Onmyōton).[6] Yamato implied that the Yin and Yang are the source of non-elemental techniques such as the Shadow Imitation Technique, Multi-Size Technique, medical ninjutsu, genjutsu, etc.

In other words, “Wood Release” is created from combining 2 Elemental Chakras and 1 NON-ELEMENTAL Chakra, Yang Release. In Wood Release, LIFE ITSELF is created, or “vitality” . This differs from any other advanced nature kekkei genkai currently performed by any shinobi except the Sage of Six Paths himself. The Sage is the only other shinobi that is known to perform an original jutsu that can create “life/vitality”. Part of this ability, or the “life force” itself, is called Yang Release—which we learned was handed down in the Sage’s “body” to the Senju Clan—which is the life force and physical energy of the Sage himself.
ASSUMPTION: Vitality in “life” cannot be created without the usage of Yang Chakra
First of all, independent “life” cannot be created from the elements in nature without “Vitality” .
Vitality (defn.) = 1. The power giving continuance of life, present in all living things. 2. The capacity to live, grow, or develop. 3. The power or ability to continue in existence. 4. A less common name for Vital Force.

The ability to “grow” (vitality) in this manner is life itself, which is here shown to speed up the process of development in the life force of the Wood Release technique. This illustrates how the “growing” properties in the Wood Release technique is administered and vitalized through Yang Chakra itself.
(Note: Even Zetsu clones are turned back into the original living trees/plants from Hashirama’s Wood Release when in contact with Karuma’s Yang Chakra. This is because Zetsu clones are literally moving clone plants, created by cultivating the 1st Hokage’s cells and using certain plants as a medium. This is why they all have Venus Fly Trap type characteristics and Wood Release on a weaker scale.)

SUPPORTING EVIDENCE #2: The Sage’s “Creation of All Things”
An ability the Sage of the Six Paths had, referred to as "Creation of All Things" (万物創造, Banbutsu Sōzō). The process he used is explained to have initially involved the administration of imagination, and the spiritual energy which forms the basis of Yin chakra to create shape and form from nothingness. Then, through the application of vitality, and the physical energy which forms the basis of Yang chakra, he would breathe life into the prior form. The sage used this ability to split the Ten-Tails into nine tailed beasts. It is also said that the technique Izanagi is based on this technique.
Note the “Bolded” section above. Vitality is administered by the physical energy that forms the basis of Yang chakra itself. In other words, Yang chakra allows one to “breathe life” into a created form. This proves that the vitality in a life force is Yang Chakra itself!

Although Yin/Yang are not a part of the 5 basic “elemental” chakra natures, they are indeed still chakra natures. Although combining two chakra natures can create a “new” chakra nature, any combination of only “elemental” chakra natures cannot create “Life”, or vitality (see defn. in ASSUMPTION section).
In other words, simply combining WATER and EARTH elements would create jutsus such as a “Great Mud Slide”, WATER and Lighning to create Storm Release, WATER and Fire to create Boil Release, EARTH and Fire to create Lava Release, EARTH and Lightning to create Explosion style, even another Kekkei Tota EARTH Wind and Fire to create Dust Release… But a living entity is on completely different level than all of these jutsus because none of them have any VITALITY. For vitality, life force itself is needed, which is embedded in YANG Release. Therefore, my belief is that the ability to produce wood (life) includes a strong concentration of Yang chakra to execute. Chuuuch.
