How did he became a garbage? He destroyed konoha in less than an hour. He was defeated by naruto because he is the main character. But think about it. Anyone from konoha who tried to stop him cant stop him. Thats why he isnt garbage. Not because he was said to be strong means he is still strong. Time passes. Considering Nagato wasn't much older than Itachi, I'd say he's well off. You may as well call Itachi a joke too, if that's the case, seeing as how Pain > Itachi. Also, he was creating it at a distance, after he destroyed the leaf, fought Kakashi, fought SM Naruto/Boss Summons/Ma and Pa, and fought up to 7 tails. Sorry, for his age Pain was amazing. End of story. Of course Edo Madara could do that, with his unlimited chakra.

Nagato is among the top 15 ninja ever. Madara brought meteors from space and Nagato made his from nothing. Nagato's body was bearly being held together by his skin and Madara is fat and healthy. Pain never lost to sage mode Naruto... seems to be a very common misunderstanding that Naruto defeated Pain... he didn't.

Naruto LOST, if not for Hinata who knows what would've happened. Naruto went apeshit crazy and went up to freakin 8 tails and Pain still held his own ~ also draining his powers ofcourse.

Just because Naruto was able to convince Nagato of his "way" doesn't mean he actually beat him. That being said, after seeing what Konan did to Tobi I'm quite sure a drained Naruto would've been killed had she attacked him aswel.

I don't in any way agree with the thread creator but I want to point out to you that Nagato was about double Itachi's age. People don't understand how powerful Itachi was at such a young age.

He died at about the same age that Minato died at, give or take a year or two.
