Figuring out strategies that you already knew doesn't make you a genius. You guys are over reacting. Hes smart but not a genius. Any ninja that had his info from fighting pain would have did the same thing with shadow clones.

I think that naruto's dumbness comes from the burdens he got in the past:
- Lonelyness and hate in his childhood
- Roguetrip of Sasuke

In his childhood, he tried to compremise the hate and lonelyness by being a dumbass to get some attention.
After Sasuke left the village, naruto became vurnable about anything that had to do with Sasuke. This got even worse when Sakura cried like a **. If something was involved with the Sasuke case, Naruto rushed like a dumbass.

After he got acknowladged by almost everyone, Konoha, Sandvillage, (the zabuza episode village) he got freed from the lonelyness.
After he talked with Sasuke, he got loose from the case. He knew what he had to do and didn't think alot about it anymore.

And now he got freed of alot burdens and can think clearly and is being an excellent ninja now.

Since the chunin exams Naruto has been showing that in tight situations he is very clever in battle. He has come a long way. I wish that he still didn't have to be a complete idiot otherwise though. Let him grow up Kishipishi.

They were?
I'll read over those chapters again. But Kushina did enforce those chains within Naruto's subconscious.

Tobi, on the other hand, is using them in the real world. Speaking of which, Tobi also used chains while fighting Minato, right? Maybe this is an upgrade of that...

...or those could just be normal, iron chains xD

Kushina also used them to restrain the Kyuubi when during hteTobi/Minato battle. And this was in not in anyone's subconscious..I am curious how Kushina's chakra chains and Tobi's are related (if at all) though..

As for the topic, we have seen Naruto overcome adversity throughout the Manga..how this is a surprise to anyone is beyond me. He has always found a way to win through strategy and quick thinking..kinda like his daddy?

Meh, it's not about that so much. What makes Naruto unique is his ability to improvise so quickly through intuition alone rather than conscious thought. Call it whatever you want, but he doesn't run through the same thought processes to come to the same conclusions as other shinobi do, nor does he use the same means, partly because of his chakra and jutsu etc., partly because he thinks differently from not having to learn to fight conventionally. He's a one of a kind, so I'm really not surprised that he thinks differently, for better or worse.

Peace

He's smart but I wouldn't say he's a genius. People throw around that word like they do with fanboy. The only true geniuses in Naruto are Shikamaru, Shikaku, Itachi, Minato, and maybe Kakashi.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that D:
+rep! Kishi better have a good explanation for all this, and it better not be that Tobi is an Uzumaki :|

Kushina used the chains inside Minato's barrier before he sealed the Kyuubi. They looked exactly like Tobi's.

We shouldnt get a head of ourself. He has demonstrated several intelligence feats, but he isnt what id call a genius. Tbh that word is being used way too much in naruto, it doesnt really mean anything anymore.

nah. he comes up with genius strategies to, sometimes comparable to the ones shikamaru comes up with (vs pain esp he showed a lot of intelligence imo). on the other hands, he makes a lot of dumb choices and unnecessary movements, whereas true geniuses like minato, itachi, and shikamaru do not, they always have some goal in mind.

Hiruzen, Minato, and as much as I hate her, Sakura is considered a genius in the book department.Ibiki considered what she did in the first part of Chunin exams impossible.

Lol have you even seen Minato's battle with Tobi? His intelligence was one of the main reasons he won that fight. Hiruzen was also called the professor for the amount of jutsu he knew.

Straight after reading the current chapter. I am amazed how far Naruto has come. I am pretty sure he remember his encounter with Nagato outer path and how he tried to control his through the rod.
Naruto cleverly went in sage mode to detect the KM clone standing outside to locate the rod from the inside and knock it out. If you ask me that Kage level thinking.
Not to even mention his Tajuu Kage bunshin jutsu idea. He was in a very tough position but to have come up with that idea is truly great. Except the fact it's a bit clumsy way of getting himself out.

I agree with you, but I probably wouldn't call him a genius.

He's more suitable for being called battle smart, in my opinion. In most of the situations other than in battle, he's being just the usual slow goofball we're used to see. I, personally, adore him for that.<3

Genius? Hmmmm ... he has his moments. I would say he is smart 70% of the time, Genius 10% of the time, and a total idiot 20% of the time. :D

^^ This. He is amazing at times but still can show moments of great stupidity. Still I wouldn't like him as a character if he was perfect
