tobi is the younger son of the rikudo sage who is disillusioned and lost his way. this would explain his identity crisis with being "nobody" and his question of "do you know how long ive waited?". he has similar sharingan abilities as kakashi because neither are uchiha (but just trained it repeatedly) but he can do izanagi because he has the sages body. he might even have sage chakra like naurto which would explain his absurd strength and durability. he has waited 1000 years to put an end to things because he tried and failed in his approach to "love" being the answer to conflict. its a parallel to naurto and sasuke, and others (danzo, orochimaru, hanzo, etc) who lost their way. i dont believe its the elder son because he would lack the senju side and would already have the rinnengan and access to every jutsu if he had been at it for 1000 years.
