Today's chapter proved without a doubt Luffy is not on the level of Katakuri or possibly anyone with over a billion dollar bounty. At this point, we need 2 or 3 arcs before Wano because there is no way ODA can come up with an excuse for Luffy (even with the help of other supernova) taking down Kaido. Even besides Kaido< I see no way for Luffy to compete with the other Calamaties (assuming they are on the same level or greater than Katakuri.
Yea the fight is officially over as far as 1v1s arena style go. Katakuri won as we all can see Brulee needed to be there in order for Luffy to escape the mirror world.
In a 1v1 Katakuri comfortably beats Luffy. He not only outlasts G4 he overpowers Luffy in G4. After Katakuri regained his senses back to normal levels, the fight was one sided again, Luffy couldn't touch him and Katakuri was bullying Luffy in his strongest form. Nothing more left to be seen here, Luffy will win once he comes back but this topic of who is stronger is pretty much confirmed dead.
For 10 minutes in Gear 4, Luffy reached the same level as the billion bounty yonkou first mate level. But that's for 10 minutes. You need to realize that luffy developed this level over the timeskip which was a year ago. He still had another year to perfect something else that isn't Gear related. On top of that during their journey against people that are way stronger than Luffy, Luffy usually learns something new or gets stronger somehow. Which is Dogtooth at the moment. Maybe towards the end of this arc luffy will learn how to awaken so he won't waste too much stamina and haki.

The fight definitely isn't over yet, Luffy has no other options but to get back in the Mirror World because there's no ship he can escape to, so once his haki gets back he will go back in and only win because of whatever weakness he found.
But yeah Luffy isn't YC1 level right now and I have no idea how Oda is going to handle Kaidos inevitable downfall. He can't touch Kata because of his CoO, and soon he's got to deal with someone much stronger I just don't see how 3 non Cracker level SNs are going to bring him down without it being complete BS.
It would have made perfect sense if Luffy, Law, Kid were all on the level of the calamities and then they confronted Kaido but I don't think they're current levels are enough.
Maybe they get some boost in Wano that puts them on that level. If not, Luffy might as well make Marco the leader of the Alliance and have him team up with Vista and Neko and Inu and have them take down Kaido.

Even in G4 luffy was getting defeated by Katakuri. They arnt on the same level.
The first 6 months to a year luffy spent mastering/learning the basics of Haki. If anything Luffy had 6 months to learn G4 and the variations that go with it.
I pray Luffy learns awakening, because that is the only peice that could level him with or put him over katakuri.

They both were knocking each other back and forth, G4 actually sent him through some window wall pillars. If luffy wasn't able to send him flying or even land a hit on him, then I would say that they are not on the same level but he did.

He's already on par it would just finally put him above his level. At least he's stronger than all the other Supernovas so he's doing well being younger than his peers yet being stronger than them. My concern is for his haki though, he needs to work on strengthening the longevity of his spiritual energy if he thinks he can take out a admiral let alone a yonkou.
This arc was having ups and downs for me, but now I'm just about ready for it to end. At this point I don't mind if Oda posts somewhere a paragraph about how the arc would have ended and just skip to Wano because I'm fed up of waiting weeks and months for trash.:dunno:Zzz
Lol at people thinking Luffy will do anything different on Wano than he did on Whole Cake Island.
Maybe I should start from chapter 1 of the Wano arc come in every thread and talk about how slow it is, how there is too much running, how the Beast pirates are dumb for not killing the main character, that every panel that is not about Luffy is a waste of time.
Boy oh boy am I happy that I said even before Luffy met big Mom that he was no match and that he had no business screwing around on that level. That allowed me to view this arc neutral and enjoy it.
So prepare for Wano because if Big Mom is even laughing at the idea that Luffy is after Kaidou first, and Luffy did less damage to her than the tile she scraped her knee on. But that she isn't the one that is known to be "immortal". Then ooh lordy I'm predicting some salty fanboy tears in this section.
Big Mom vs Kaidou let's go !!! That is where it is at. Luffy's little pirate games will have to wait till he is up against Blackbeard before he even should think about fighting a yonkou.

Yea that is possible that gift would be that she changes the title of the manga from One Piece to Fairy Tail. Would be a nice gift because Oda will have so much more free time, he doesn't need to plan ahead anymore.
Bottomline, if you're not even close to beating the first commander of a yonkou in one arc, you're not beating the "strongest" yonkou in the next one.

That was before Katakuri was able to focus on the fight. He stated afterwards that he was nt level headed at the time that luffy initially attacked. Once Katakuri started focusing it became a one sided fight.

When Dogtooth used Peerless Donut: Mochi power he was tagging Gear 4 Luffy with about 6 heavy hits in total but before then when Dogtooth wasn't calm Luffy gave him 4 hits big hits but on the other Luffy didn't use his strongest attack either. The way I see it is that both of them have a weakness in which they capitalize on and in this stage right now Luffy isn't just going to overpower his opponents to win like he did Doflamingo, Moriah, and Lucci. He's going to start building on refining his haki further, devil fruit control further, and battle experience even further. And Dogtooth is the man for him to take that big step in to fighting top notch guys like to parry with Admirals in the near future or maybe even a yonkou later down the road as well.
So in terms of power, blow for blow and haki strength Gear 4 luffy is on par with a yonkou first mate such as Dogtooth because he sent dogtooth fly and so did Dogtooth likewise. His Gear 4 Haki matched Dogtooth's buso haki strength as well as Dogtooth vice verse. Right now the only thing Dogtooth holds over Luffy is battle experience and devil fruit mastery while Luffy's brute strength edges out Dogtooth by a little bit.
Yeah bro I was waiting for you to say that because I was just about to post the same thing Kyuubi Sagemode just posted now. That's why I said Luffy literally had a year in between to learn whatever he wanted because he already knew King Kong Gun when Rayleigh was there.

I purposely ignored Riker because of all his idiotic claims he makes up he thinks that they are facts. This is the same guy that said that Luffy can't walk or even fight after using Gear 4 and he said that Doflamingo was half dead like old marineford Whitebeard before he fought Gear 4 luffy. Don't listen to that guy I know you're smarter than that.

I do agree with that assessment.
I think looking at it from your point of view may be accurate.
This may be a battle to teach luffy how to battle with a calm mind, refine his Haki, and learn better mastery of his devil fruit.

I do agree that luffy learned mastery of Basic Haki and Gear 4th in the year of being on the island with Rayleigh. When I stated earlier that Luffy learn new gear 4 techniques and the other forms that go with it (such as Tank Man), I was refering to the last 6 months luffy was on the Island without Rayleigh.
