The relationship between the Sun and Moon is clear. Whilst the Sun, which represents our Self, appears constant – the Moon appears to change constantly, as with our emotions.

The Moon is the epitome of change. The different phases of the Moon tell us a different story each night of the year. The Sun is the Moons partner – the phases of the Moon are lit up through the light received from the angle of the Sun. This relationship constantly changes and molds the energy of that day/night. This is a cosmic song and dance between two lovers. This also could be represented through Yin and Yang ( - source).

You must be registered for see images

To start us off, our hero is Boruto Uzumaki. The main character of this story. He is the son of Naruto Uzumaki, who is represented as a hero, in fact the greatest hero there is. Now bringing it back to Boruto, the centric part of the story thus far or at least the core of Boruto's arc, has been dealing with his Dojutsu. His eye.

You must be registered for see images

This is a direct parallel to Naruto's idealism, or path, one could say. Naruto has always been characterized as a bright light, someone who can inspire others to do good, or follow him.

You must be registered for see images

You must be registered for see images

As we can see, Naruto is basically the embodiment of good. Hell, even a sensor who practically just met Naruto could tell that from

The point of this, is to connect back to one of the central ploys of the original Naruto Manga. Is that Naruto is the Yang. He IS good. He IS light. There's no surprise that a man who basks in the sun, gave birth to a boy who would also have the power of hope. But, then wouldn't that classify Boruto as Yang? Wouldn't that make Boruto a Sun too?

You must be registered for see images

There you have it. Discussion end, basically '/thread' right there, right? Wrong.

Someone who basks in the light, can only spread light. He cannot walk a path of darkness, he cannot BE darkness. But what if Boruto, is neither light, nor dark? What if Boruto is a combination of both Yang, and Yin? We've already talked about Boruto's Yang connection, but now it's time to dive into what potentially makes Boruto Yin.

You must be registered for see images

Tragedy. It's just that simple. That's always how it starts, doesn't it? The rage, the hatred, the feeling of powerlessness that turns good men, cruel. If Naruto was the embodiment of Yang, do you know who is the Yin of the story? His counterpart, his equal? It's clear, isn't it?

You must be registered for see images

To understand the comparisons, we must take a step back to see what made Sasuke follow down a strict path of hatred. As we per obvious, Sasuke started off as a child, just like any other. But his life changed, with Itachi killing his entire family and Clan, in order to keep peace within the Leaf Village. Ultimately no matter how you look at it, the root to Sasuke's stark change in personality and mindset, was deep rooted with the Uchiha's Clan massacre. However, even with that in mind, Sasuke was not pure Yin. He wanted to kill Itachi, but he did not walk in darkness. For Sasuke there was strict line, but he was always focused, always collected. But there were things down the road that changed Sasuke. Two curses that he ultimately never saw coming.

The snake.

You must be registered for see images

You must be registered for see images

You must be registered for see images

Orochimaru forced upon a curse seal onto Sasuke's body, in order for Sasuke to crave for more power. In essence, there's no such thing as a perfect human being. No matter how gifted or talented we think we are, there will always be someone stronger, and always be someone better than you. Orochimaru preyed on Sasuke's goal, to defeat his brother, for the sake of obtaining power. He knew that one day Sasuke would reach out to him, and he succeeded, in the events of Valley of the Death.

You must be registered for see images

Now you're probably wondering, what exactly does this have to do with Boruto's path? Everything. You see unlike Sasuke, Boruto isn't one who seeks revenge, because he hasn't undergo any form of tragedy in order to make him what Sasuke is now. At the same time, Boruto isn't like Naruto, because he's ... cursed too. There's a difference, but also a balance.

You must be registered for see images

Did you notice the comparisons? Like Sasuke, Boruto was forced to take a power he never asked for. At the same time Orochimaru who was luring Sasuke with the seal in order to seduce him. .

"Those blue eyes of yours shall eventually take everything from you..."

Who else had lost everything important to them?

You must be registered for see images

You must be registered for see images

Ultimately like Sasuke, Boruto will have to deal with the mark placed upon his body, which was later dived into as problematic by the man himself.

You must be registered for see images

You must be registered for see images

This brings us to my final point. The second curse dealing with Sasuke, which is more aligned toward his Clan. The Curse of Hatred.

You must be registered for see images

After learning the truth about Itachi, and awakening the Sharingan through that pain (not even accounting to what Sasuke had been through already) this is what breaks him. It's really what changed Sasuke completely, what put him on his complete path to darkness.

You must be registered for see images

Which interesting enough, Kishimoto parallels with Karin sensing Naruto's 'warm and bright' chakra, . Now essentially this point has two parts in my theory: What this has to do with Boruto, and Sarada. Now I'll get to Sarada later (along with Mitsuki) because they play a part in understanding who Boruto might be for the future.

Now let's back on track to what Momoshiki's said about Boruto's eyes.

You must be registered for see images

You must be registered for see images

The connection is that Sasuke's Clan, who were manipulated, forced their growth into the power of hatred. This is what resulted them into being a cursed clan. Because they experienced pain and suffering, or in Sasuke's case, losing everything closest to him, they grew more powerful. Likewise, Momoshiki tells Boruto that his eyes are cursed too. This directly attacks what Toneri had explained about Boruto's eye being a beckon of hope.

You see Boruto's path isn't just as straightforward as Naruto's. He can't just be the light, because he was touched by a curse too. This is where my theory draws the line, I feel as Boruto will be a mixture of them both. He won't be just the hero his father was, nor can he be the villain Sasuke was. He'll combination of they are, because he's going somewhat similar situations and struggles that they faced on their path into being 'ninja'. However, it's deeper than just this. You see the same symbolism through his relationship, through his birthright, and his personality.

The Hyuuga Clan has heavy pieces of symbolism throughout the story where they deal with the balances between Yin and Yang.

As established in the next generation story, Mitsuki is already characterized as the Moon. Basically he embodies Yin, however he won't necessarily be 'evil' like Sasuke. As long as his 'Sun' shines a light for him.

You must be registered for see images

As I have explained before, Boruto isn't just classified as the Sun primarily for everyone. But for his relationship with Mitsuki, he will be the light that guides him. Now, is that all there is? Let's move onto Boruto's second important comrade. Sarada Uchiha.

I've talked about this earlier, the Uchiha Clan have been symbolized as a Clan who grew with pain, who improve through their suffering. But, it was concluded that strong emotions is what drives the Uchiha. Not just pain and suffering, but different emotions can also be a key. This is seen through the new age of Uchiha: Sarada herself. Just take a look at the difference between Sasuke and Sarada's awakening.

You must be registered for see images

Sarada for the most case, is the embodiment of love for this new generation. In fact, directly after the events of the Naruto Gaiden Sarada who worked closely with Nanadaime Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki, decides to take a path similar to him. She decides to become Hokage, so that she can spread love to the entire Village. Figuratively and literally.

You must be registered for see images

That begs the question, how exactly does Boruto fit in this kind of relationship? Well to understand that, we must understand his character goals and motivations.

From here you can get a rough idea of just what kind of person Boruto was before his 'character development':

You must be registered for see images

And here you get a rough idea of what Boruto struggles with

You must be registered for see images

And ultimately how he overcomes these situations.
You must be registered for see images

It's through his maturing, with the help of Sasuke, that resulted in Boruto to mature into this kind of person, with this goal.
You must be registered for see images

And thus we reach our conclusion.

Boruto states he wants to be a ninja who can support the Hokage, hence why he wants to follow in his Master's footsteps. As we talked before, Boruto's relationship with Mitsuki is being his 'Sun' in order to navigate him, at least that's what Orochimaru and Log want. However, when it come to his second important relationship on the Team, Boruto is Sarada's future 'shadow'.

Boruto walks does not walk an orthodox path no matter where you look, he's always unorthodox. That's the entire point of this thread. Boruto isn't just the hero, he's also the cursed. Boruto isn't just the Light, he's also the Shadow.

No matter where you look Boruto is balanced, almost poetic in a way. Considering the fact that he's most likely based on both of our previous main characters who represented strong paths towards Yin and Yang.

You must be registered for see images

There's just one thing I want to say before I conclude my theory.

Lastly -

What really drove me to make this outside of the Boruto Movie itself, is the first two chapters (or for some people, the first few minutes) of the Boruto Manga/Anime. It's really about Boruto and Kawaki's conversation.

You must be registered for see images

You must be registered for see images

You must be registered for see images

Boruto comes in to face Kawaki, and is surprised to find out that he is the one behind the attack. Kawaki then threatens him, saying that he will take Boruto out in the same way he did Naruto. However, Boruto doesn't even try to argue or reason with Kawaki. Instead he immediately agrees with Kawaki, stating that this was the only possible outcome. Do you understand why this is important? Naruto, at least the way it ended, had the previous Main Character preach to the villain to change his or her opinion. Very rarely did we see Naruto just agree with the person, and state that there was nothing he/she could do about it, and that's just how it is.

However, here we have Boruto even submit to Kawaki after he states that the age of shinobi is over. And he replies with (and I quote), "Even so... I'm still a ninja".

You must be registered for see images

Funny enough, in Episode 15 of the Boruto Anime, Toneri is talking about Boruto's Dojutsu. And he is talking under to what I believe to be an eclipse

Your analogy doesn't work because eclipse would just be yin yang

I think borutos suppose to represent a completely different aspect

For one the okutsuki symbol is represented of sun moon and star

He's suppose to represent 3rd aspect and new element wiki

He's suppose to be the anti sun, you can think about this way the sun promotes life while the star promotes destruction and negative aspect

I think we even see boruto eyes referred to as the star by toneri

The black circle is suppose to be the star or the anti sun and 3rd aspect that's my theory anyways

Interesting idea. Make a thread on it?

Or rather do you think that the idea of ninja is referring to Hagoromo gift to man nin-shu and kawki is expressing the power of gods now

Kinda like hero academia. Its a battle between one for all (boruto and possible friends 8f they still alive) and all for one (alien bastardz)

We get alot of references of man being compared to god soooo

Nice way of tying together all that we know so far. Whatever the next threat to the Shinobi world will be, it likely will transcend the boundaries of the Yin-Yang dichotomy that began with Hagoromo.
