Orochimaru would listen to the words of his sensei as he studied his teacher. She was difficult to read more so than most which naturally piqued his inquisitive nature. Realising however that he had been silent for quite some time he would respond. Her eyes moved to look upon her student while her face was still oriented towards the book. Eleanor closed the book shut with the single hand she was holding it with in a quick gesture, and turned her full attention to Orochimaru. She crossed her legs and rested her hands (and the book) on her lap, looking more and more like a schoolteacher. Perhaps an apple might complete the picture.
"It's good to exercise punctuality and discipline, especially with regards to what we'll study today. By keeping yourself centered, grounded, aware and critically thinking, most illusions will simply... reveal themselves." she said rather curtly.
After a moment, she adjusted her glasses.
"Excuse my manners. My name is Eleanor." she continued, nodding once in acknowledgement.
Sensei seemed intrigued by his response, that was a good sign. Someone who's interest had been piqued was more likely to continue to delve for information and in turn expose more of their own. It had became a game almost. Who would give more ground because their interest demanded it.As suspected. He was definitely more than met the eye. A rather surprising amount of tact and maturity among other things...
"... the second part of my question related to genjutsu, or illusionary arts. What do you know about them?"
Certainly sensei. Genjutsu otherwise known as the illusionary arts is a style of ninjutsu that focuses on disturbing tje flow of chakra to a targets brain to alter signals to their senses essentially implanting false events or illusions that entrap the opponent. Most genjutsu in fact nearly all are non fatal though there are tales of a clan capable of making the illusions seem real and cause real harm. Addiionally several illusions of the highest quality are derived from the ocular powers of the sharingan. Genjutsu is a powerful tool capable of turning the tide of battle if used correctly but it's known to require a powerful mind to use it to its full extent. The methods for breaking genjutsu vary however usually one will release a powerful spike of their own chakra to release the genjutsu either via kai or a full body surge. Also pain is suitable to release from genjutsu with more pain releasing higher ranked illusions.(I'm sorry for the delay. Will try to be more consistent from now on)
"I see... perhaps you would like to recite the principles of genjutsu in your own words? As in, how they work, what's involved in them, uses in battle, and all that."
She rubbed her chin and rested it on her hand, tilting her head slightly with more interest coupled with a pensive expression.
"Yes. In essence, genjutsu alter and disrupt the senses of their targets. The intricacies and degree to which these senses are affected are dependent on the skill of its caster. More complex illusions are often harder to deduce and release yourself from, though you can be especially proficient and use even simple techniques to create difficult scenarios."( Genjutsu: Kai ) - Illusion Technique: Release
Rank: C-S
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15-40
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user does one hand seal to focus and then proceeds to disturb his chakra flow by forcefully stopping it momentarily and then "spiking" his spiritual energy, unbalancing his chakra. This dispels any genjutsu set upon the user except MS Eye Techniques, Paralysis-like Genjutsu and Demonic Illusion: Toad Confrontation Chant. The effectiveness of this technique is dependent upon the skill of the user. A Jounin rank ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to C-rank. An S-class ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to B-rank. A Sannin rank ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to A-rank. A Sage rank user can dispel Genjutsu up to S-Rank. The user may use this technique through physical contact on others to dispel them from Genjutsu. The technique can only be used once per turn and the user still needs to fully follow the logic as to why he figured out it was an illusion.
Yes sensei right away."Yes. In essence, genjutsu alter and disrupt the senses of their targets. The intricacies and degree to which these senses are affected are dependent on the skill of its caster. "Orochimaru... let's see how acute your senses and observations are. I want you to describe our surroundings here in the training grounds, and report it to me verbally."
It was a beautiful day, a very gentle breeze swaying the grass and foliage. Perfect and temperate weather that would draw envy. A clearing within the forested area was where the two of them were gathered. The ground was worn from having been used in many a training session, with patches of grass in less impacted areas. Tree stumps also peppered the clearing, with Eleanor still sitting elegantly upon one of them. Behind them both was a small lake, perfectly still. The sounds of small wildlife, from the rustling to the buzzing to the chirping, created an almost hypnotic, subtle melody.
All that, among other things.
Very observant indeed. Eleanor nodded, stood up from her stump, and walked towards Orochimaru, placing her hand on his shoulder. Her free hand formed a half-seal.Yes sensei right away.
Orochimaru knew that his sensei would want great detail placed on the surroundings and so he would take a deep breath, clearing his mind and staring around the fields of the training area. Taking in all the sights and sounds. Before calmly reciting the surroundings.
This is the training area. Where most people are taught the arts of ninjutsu, it is a series of almost endless fields with wooden posts for target practice with ninja tools and small forested areas surrounding it for use with a number of exercises. The grass is fairly short but still long enough to sway with the gentle breeze we are experiencing today. Behind us is a small but relatively deep lake, containing fish and insects on the surface, it has a fine film of algae across the surface. The trees in the forest are quite large some of them reaching dozens of meters and having incredibly thick trunks. The weather seems mostly perfect for the majority of people, being very warm and sunny. However I kind of prefer it when it's a bit colder with more wind.

( Magen: Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu ) - Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10 (+5 if you use it double)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user casts an illusion over an area that allows him to manipulate the way an area looks to fool an opponent. He can only change the way the terrain looks, and not any other feature.
I'm not sure sensei. I must have missed something, please explain to me.Very observant indeed. Eleanor nodded, stood up from her stump, and walked towards Orochimaru, placing her hand on his shoulder. Her free hand formed a half-seal.
"Release."
Orochimaru may have felt a 'surge' of chakra from his sensei course through him. The training grounds looked the same... but the 'perfectly still' lake started rippling and filled with movement, being influenced by the breeze. A couple of tree stumps dematerialized as if they were never there to begin with.
"I'll ask you again to pardon my manners, Orochimaru. I had placed an illusion around here just as you walked in. It's called the 'False Surroundings Technique', where you can change how the area looks by fooling your opponent's sight. I made it so the lake seemed placid, and that there were more tree stumps here."
"Of course, I just released you from it using the 'Genjutsu Kai', which is the chakra spike you mentioned earlier. Now, remember this... every illusion must be reasoned in order to form the rationale to dispel it. This is absolutely fundamental."
"... knowing that, aside from the lake, how else might have you have realized something was amiss? I will note how there are less tree stumps around us, so let that be a hint for you."
"Sometimes, the best tricks are the simplest ones. The illusion that was casted made you see more tree stumps than there actually were. Of course, since we were on a training ground, you may not have bothered to check. If you sat down on a stump, you'd fall through since it's merely a projection. Then, you could deduce the illusion from there."I'm not sure sensei. I must have missed something, please explain to me.
Orochimaru said interested. This question had completely stumped him, he didn't know what he had missed but was also impressed by the powers of genjutsu shown so far.
Ah I see sensei, I hadn't thought of the tree stumps though now you mention it, this is a clearing in the forest so there shouldn't be as many stumps here to begin with. That makes sense, impressive isn't it. The power of illusion. Yes sensei let us continue, my interest is piqued."Sometimes, the best tricks are the simplest ones. "Genjutsu can also be broken on accident or instinct, though those are rarer in occurrence and won't always succeed."
"Shall we move on, Orochimaru?"
"Alright then... I appreciate your curiosity. Our next illusion requires the forming of five handseals. You'll then inject chakra into your opponent and impair their sense of sight. You will 'disappear' into cherry blossom petals, effectively masking your presence from them. It's a good compliment to stealth ninjutsu."Ah I see sensei, I hadn't thought of the tree stumps though now you mention it, this is a clearing in the forest so there shouldn't be as many stumps here to begin with. Orochimaru says impressed by this branch of ninjutsu.
