Naruto was also in base most of the time while sauce had Sharingan active. Naruto didn't change modes the whole time until Sasuke Universal pulled and Entoned his clones. If if he was taking punches and holding back, Naruto was at least holding his own at base.

Naruto probably should have started out in Frog Sage Mode. At least he would have had that sensing going on to counteract Sasuke's precog slaughter he handed him at the first half of the fight XD
