Everyone likes Tobi and tobi is a genuine master planner that lied of being madara to install his idols and goals to everyone he can. He killed high level shinobis without hesitation and with minimal effort whenever he fought seriously.
His genjutsu was the highest shown in the series with the exclusion of Sasuke, mugen tsuki no me, and KA.
His ninjutsus is completely broken when mastered, variety of powerful six path ability, ucchiha ability, and senju abilities.
He felt that you are completely powerless if you do not have the power of the jyubi at your side.

Obito was never really like that.
