I like the idea of a monthly art contest where members can participate and show off their works but i think they should change the contest a little bit, like... maybe change the rules a little bit? or the name. Change it to "Traditional Art Contest of the Month" and host a separate contest for digital and one for painting or whatever, not just completely disqualify people for drawing something in a way that doesn't meet your standards.

And come on! if all the submissions are terrible just try and pick the best ones, don't just ditch them all, the contest is supposed to be about fun right?

I'm not really sure what your problem is, but you are acting quite childish and immature.

In the past 7 years this would be like the 3rd or 4th time I have this argument and the ones who complain about it had always the same profile. What do you think this forum is? We are a Naruto forum, not DeviantArt where you have tens of thousands of people who distinguish hundreds forms of art. We made the Art contest because some people liked to draw and together with the FF and the Profile contest, it's the oldest contest on NB dating back to 2008/2009. When the contest was created, the name was self-explanatory and no one thought otherwise as most participants have always been people who draw for the fun of it, whether it's good or bad, and not professional artists and if someone of the latter group participated, most of the time they understood the situation. But then you have those rare few people like you who refuse the accept the reality that how you perceive art is vastly different from how the majority of the people, who don't even think about terms like "traditional" or "non-traditional", perceive it. The only time I ever have to use these terms, is with people like you.

The name will not be changed. The contest has been named like that ever since 2009 and never caused problems. In the rare case that someone was confused, well the rules would make the intention of the contest pretty clear and if you want to participate, it's nothing less than logical that you would read the rules. So it pretty much comes down to that I have to change the name because a handful of people are to lazy to click a single link? Not to mention "Traditional Art Contest of the Month" sounds stupid and is in fact even more confusing as that would imply there are other art contests, which there aren't.

The rules will not be changed either as there is nothing wrong with them.

There will be no other art contest. We just removed several contests because they can't be maintained due to the current circumstances. You can start making countless of contests based around different forms of art when you have thousands of participants, but not when you have a very limited amount as then you run the risk of ruining both contests if that amount starts to split.

Also I don't have anything against digital art, but it's just a fact that they are different from what you define as traditional art and should not be in the same contest and because the majority of "artists" on NB are people who just draw for fun, logically the Art Contest is centered around them. People who liked digital and GFX stuff, well they have the SotM and PotM. In theory all our contests can be considered to be a form of art, but you wouldn't place a fanfiction in the same contest as an artwork. In the end you are also placing subjective limits on what art is, but these limits are really not realistic for a place like NB.

so many times i entered and got no votes. but i kept trying to get better from seeing artists that use to enter like -Killer Vision-, Lan Fan, Zack Blade, even Lara inspired me to try again. all im saying is, instead of trying to change the game so you can beat it, play the game and lvl up till you beat it

Things said by regular members are always taken seriously and into consideration. That's why we have this section, otherwise we would have closed it a long time ago. Are you talking about May contest? Bc the winners of that has already been put through. Cali doesn't hate you. Cali has hosted the contest for a long time and has implemented and rejected various suggestions over the years. If the contest name has been working for hundreds of participants over all the years, whats the point of a name change now?

Contests need to apply to the masses, we once had an AMV contest, that lasted a couple of months because the skills of the people at the time was not in making such videos. The suggestion you are making charters into the area of manga colouring/colouring and that itself is not a contest anymore.

If we are going to split hair, I wonder if you realize what 'traditional art" is before making such a suggestion-

The term 'traditional art' doesn't focus on the object or the example but rather on the maker, the community the artist is a part of, and the creative process. So when you use this term people take it that you are talking about folk arts or the art styles being used within a community and not learned formally but informally though generations in various parts of the world:

As Lawliet said- Cali or anyone isn't going to hate you for making a suggestion but we have to see how suitable a suggestion is in the context of this forum. It's usually the other way round, people hating on us for not accepting their suggestions without realizing that many of the suggestions get rejected because they do not really work for NB at the time.

The name doesn't necessarily have to change if it's such a big deal, i just want everyone to have a chance, i want it to be fair for everyone, wether you're good at traditional or digital etc. or not. Because the contest is called "ART Contest of the Month" for a reason, is it not? not "Traditional Art Contest of the Month".

The rule explicitly forbids digital entries. Either change/remove the rule or deal with the complaints.
