The 32 years old Ukrainian singer Jamala won Eurovision Song Contest (a music contest where singers from each state of Europe, and not only, participate) with a song called "1944".
She decided to bring politics to the table, remembering when her grandmother was deported from Crimea to Uzbekistan, alongside with about other 200.000 Tartars, because accused of collaboration with Hitler.
By this, she wants to protest against Crimea's annexation to Russia, comparing a deportation with a free choice of the overwhelming majority of the people of a region, and a brutal dictatorship to a free and respectable State.

Actually she wasn't the one who brought politics to the table, that was you among everyone else who is making a complete pointless and unnecessary fuss. If no one would have bothered so much with this song, there wouldn't be any problems or do you think that everyone somehow understood what she was singing? That everyone would be carefully focusing on what the meaning would be behind her words even if they understood? Do you think that the average watcher of Eurovision is politically active and concerned about the European institution and the relationships between all the European countries? Of course not, they don't give a damn.
It's people like you who are the problem, that becomes extremely obvious from your post where you state that she is protesting against the annexation despite the fact it is not proven, but you say that it definitely is like that. You subjectively interpreted this as being absolutely political and as a result you made it political despite the reality there was no particular reason for it. You brought up politics on the table and now you are whining about it.
This really seems to have become Russia's specialty these days: whine. The largest and one of the mightiest countries in the world and each and every time something is not going their way, they whine and complain and see conspiracies everywhere. They place themselves in the role of a victim and then act like they get bullied. Currently Russia is the prime example of a sore looser.
Seriously I have been following Eurovision for almost two decades by now. Politics is really nothing new, in fact I got the impression it has become even less severe than in the past. At least these days most participants are skilled, especially this time around the quality was quite high. But you shouldn't be pulling that out of proportion as voting has now become much fairer than in the previous decade in the sense that people aren't voting on auto pilot or do you think that Russia gets all their votes in an unbiased manner? Yeah right. You conveniently blot out the reality that Russia gains as much, maybe even more, votes because of this supposed political involvement as how to explain that Russia always competing for the 1st place? How to explain they always get so many votes? This time they even received the most votes from the public.
Loosely translated: it's acceptable as long as the political element works in favor of Russia, but when it works against them, then they are going to complain.
Everyone hates Russia, no wonder why she won...
Care to explain how a country that apparently is hated by everyone almost wins every year? Apparently being hated on makes you end up on the 5th place with the results of the jury and 1st place with the results of the public, making a 3rd place altogether? If that is being hated, I seriously wonder what happens if they are loved? And why letting Ukraine win then?
It was a part of their history, as simple as that. There was no need to bring that back and do show in order to play the part of the "poor little Ukraine bullied by big evil Russia".
The comparison between USSR deportation and Russia's annexation is nonsense, ridiculous and utterly biased. I wonder if she cared that much about Crimea, why didn't she go in Crimea to sing that?
She manipulated European anti-Russia mentality to give a low blow that would never have been accepted in an opposite case.
Russia plays the "poor little Russia being bullied by the entire world" continuously. Instead of just accepting it in a mature way for a change, Russia has to sulk again. "It's clearly political" but the reality that Russia itself does it all the time is apparently of no relevance.
The only ones who are comparing this song to the recent events, seem to be the people who want this to be political. If no one would have made a fuss about the song, no one would have been bothered by it. Europe really wouldn't have been giving so many votes to Ukraine if they thought the song sucked or since when is Europe that political active?
Yes it's "nonsense", so why are you so riled about a song that goes about something that happened over 70 years ago? Yes you could draw a parallel with recent events, but if you just don't, then there's no issue.
Russia would have won if it weren't for the jury and what the ukrainian singer did is actually not allowed, but it's apparently ok because it was directed towards Russia lmao
This jury-system is something that has been used for several years now, which works much better than the 100% public vote, which was highly biased and far far worse. For the record each country assembles a jury of their own, which mainly consists out of people of the music industry themselves. So that there is a difference between the votes of the jury and the votes of the public is logical as the former are experts and their perspective is very differently from someone who just votes for the song that sounds the best.
From those two groups rationally speaking you could say the votes from the jury are more trustworthy than the votes of the public as the former has something like a musician's pride. It would be plainly sad that someone who is supposed to be an expert in music, is going to start reasoning "oh I hate that country, not going to vote for it despite it having a high-quality song". The regular public can of course use such reasonings.
So whether now the public or the juries would now be the most biased, is debatable. After all if the public wouldn't have voted, Australia would have won, not Ukraine.
>Russia is the most bet on country
>Russia was also the most spoken about
>We (Netherlands) literally talked on the news wow they are so good Douwe bob will get it hard against dem Ruski's
>Netherlands judges give 0 points to Russia even tho after Belgium Russia was the second most voted country with calls/texts
This shit is obviously rigged. Poland went from 7 points from the judges to 237 or something because of voters. Pretty sure Eurovision received money from the EU to let Ukraine win so we will have to go to a country in a civil war and we want to accept Ukraine into the EU.
Besides that her song was literally about Stalin, Crimean-tartars and Soviet union which wasn't even allowed Armenia had to Change their song because of political related once but Ukraine does not? Even in the rules it says political songs are not allowed.
I signed some petition to revise the votes and I want some groups together like the fbi and fsb check this out. Pretty sure they ****ed with the votes and besides that corruption and bias everywhere.
>be hohol Ukraine
>give 12 points to nobody so they don't get competition
It should have been like first the votes of the callers/testers and after that on live television the jury of each country had to anounce their points so we can see them lie and being biased from the beginning.
Also some famous group for middle aged women called the toppers here in the Netherlands which was asked by Eurovision some years ago that if they paid money they would immediately go into the finals by winning the semi-finals.
This just proofs how corrupt and political it is. Let's hope the petition brings us somewhere and if not Kiev will be Russian anyway in 2017
Yeah....right as it would be very clever to rig a contest and make it that obvious by showing the difference between the votes of the jury and the votes of the public and it's also of vital importance that Ukraine has to beat Russia in a singing contest and it's also important that we get even more tension by having the next edition in a country where there's a civil war ~_~
Hypothetically speaking if Europe was "rigging" this contest, which is plainly a stupid thought, do you really think they would have wanted this result? Like they haven't gotten enough problems already. If they rigged it, then they would have most likely avoided any controversial country like Ukraine, Russia, Greece...and would have chosen a safe bet like Sweden again, they really have become quite good at hosting Eurovision, or Australia that has no involvement in European politics.
For crying out loud. Yes there is a political aspect, yes no doubt there were people who voted for or against someone because of political reasons, this has worked both in favor and against many countries, however you don't need to blow this out of proportion. At this point this song is merely an excuse for many people to complain about political matters rather than the actual song being political.
Petition...don't make me laugh.
