Madara didn't break out and Itachi didn't weaken the control. Itachi released the souls completely, and Madara re-summoned himself. If it hadn't of been for Hashirama's cells, the more potent power of Oro couldn't bind Tobirama. So never mind Kabuto binding Madara.

Well yeah, that was his best opportunity. But it was a troll move on Kishi's part. Even though he was mandatory for the plot I lost interest in Madara by then.

Madara had no reason to want to break control. He and Kabuto had the same goals. He only broke the control so he wouldn't die again after Kabuto lost.

I was actually trying to imply the opposite of that. Madara was just goin with the flow until the Edo Tensei was released, then he got serious and retained his place.

Madara didn't even need Edo Tensei to be released. All he needed was for Obito to perform Rinne Tensei.

Madara literally had no plans to release Kabuto's control whatsoever, until Kabuto lost and Madara was at risk of being destroyed.

And all that was only possible because Kabuto knew they were on the same side, which means he never chose to erase Madara's mind completely to restrain him, as Orochimaru did to Hashirama.

If you recall, the second time Orochimaru summoned Hashirama, he didn't implant a sealing tag within his head to restrain him. That's the only reason Hashirama was able to break out as well.
