[Theory] Sage mode requirements

Toed Sage is as far as we know an exclusive right of the Toads, other wise Orochimaru would have learn Snake Sage mode and Tsunade Lugs Sage Mode. But they did not for what ever reason. So it must be assume that Toads are in a league of their own as far as Sage is concern.

I've been wondering why it is only frogs that have sage mode... What I mean by that is..

take the 3 Sennin (which I understand to mean Sage or Immortal one)

If J-man was a Sage.. Why couldnt Tsunade learn Sage techs from her slugs, and Oro from his snakes after all they are 'nature' creatures and prolly have their own jutsu's ...

Also, why couldn't say Nagato have learned Sage mode ... especially if he were SO6P incarnate...

ok. first of all it is the 3 Sannin. sennin, as you said before means sage. the oro tsunade and jiraiya were the sannin, the three ninja. So that is why tsunade or oro coudl not learn sage techniques.

and second, what would be the point of nagato learning sage mode? the dude had enough chakra to take on konoha(supposedly the "strongest" village), be winning, then just cuz he got pissed off cuz someone insulted his ideals, he destroyed the entire village. After they he proceeded to fight on par then overcome a jinchuriki in sage mode. he was only put in retreat after he went 6 tails and even that was to only capture him yet again. only being overcome once naruto went 8 tails. after all that fighting he was then able to bring back to life a huge number of people. i dont think nagato had any problems with chakra sowhat was the point of him learning sage mode?

All evidence points to that so far only the Toads have Sage training and that certain rules must be follow to achieve Sage mode, large amount of Chakra, a will that will not ben under the pressure. Obviously Tsunade nor Orochimaru meet all the requirements needed to be a sage. And Tsunades slug is more suited for medical chakra manipulation as seen in the Pain arc. And Orochimaru Snakes for dark forbidden jutsus. And you confuse person Sanin means legendary Ninja in English not Sage witch is Latin for a Learned Person.

Before you read any further please note that Pa and Ma frog are the only toads using sage mode and they are 800 years old. I'm begining to think sage mode is not toad exclusive and it has something to do with So6P.

The toads are oldest characters we know of and if anyone had contact with the So6P in anyway it would have been a toad given how old the toads can live to. Also if the So6p did hand down secects about sage chakra to only his specfic summons it would explain why only a few toads can use sage mode, let alone human shinobi.

Shame that elder toad sage has memory issues he's 1000+ years old I would love to know what his recollection of the So6P is.

Your hate will burn you in the end, your fear will eat you from the inside, for you have no love for life. You can hid from friends a single tech but not Sage Mode. Especially from Sensory Ninjas. Nor the Bingo Book. Jiraiya was concern over people knowing what naruto had learn, But how do you keep secrets when fighting S Ninjas, you don't and ones you defeat an s ninja everybody in the ninja world eventually finds out about it. From what I know, the So6P was also considered a sage, and may perhaps know how to use senjustu other than being the first to know ninjutsu. The elder toad sage was also considered as one.

As far as the Rikkudo Sennin is considered, it is possible that senjutsu's origins can be traced to him. If he was plausibly the first person who was able to mold and balance both mind and chakra into a ninjutsu, then perhaps it does not deny him the ability to mold mind, body and nature chakra into a senjutsu. Well, he was called a "sage" after all.

Anyhow, aside from having vast amounts of chakra and a gutsy attitude (to try and try until you die, err, succeed), you must be able to balance both natural and spiritual chakra. Perhaps, what sets the successful or semi-successful known sages apart from the rest is that they're able to manipulate all those chakras into one perfect balance (one part mind, one part body and one part nature).

So, it's not enough if you have a shiteful load of chakra if you can't just balance it with nature chakra. That's why, from Naruto's side, it took him a lot of guts, hardwork and skill to finally perfect it.

I don't think being a sage is exclusive to one specific clan, though it may be exclusive genetically. Perhaps, not because of the bloodlimit, but because of the innate prowess that comes with it (i.e. having vast amounts of chakra or could be the special skill of balancing those chakras and molding them altogether into sage chakra).

Also, it comes with the opportunity. Since it seems like it's only the toads who practice senjutsu, I ASSUME that only those shinobis who are bestowed a contract with toads have the chance to learn senjustu and be trained with it.

A Sage is a Learned Person, it can be in any subject or art that you exceeded beyond normal person. In Music people like Verdi and Wagner, Motzard were consider Music Sages because only a had full of people could even begin to understand their genius in Music. The same as writhers like Homer Ulysses. The Toad Sage develop a way to harness Natural Energy and put it in a new different fighting style that only a few can use. That earn them the title of Sage. In the Naruto Universe their may be other Sages of different Ninjutsu arts that have yet to be revealed. Who knows Lee someday may meet a Taijutsu Sage and become a Taijutsu Sage Himself? You never know?

Couldn't this also go with Naruto being a senju.

Sage mode amps up all Naruto's qualities nin, gen and tai. All aspects of what made the senju so great. Also makes the sage mode users physical charismatics increase dramatically. Also the will of fire means the guts to never give up like someone else said, the toads were passed down to the konaha mainly through Hashirama and Tobirama student lineage.

Also a little off topic but couldn't it have been said that Nagato was the reincarnation of the older brother and Naruto the younger brother. Nagato was born with powerful eyes and huge chakra and is older than Naruto, while Naruto with sage mode becomes what the younger brother was the physically powerful and the guts to never give up. Even their ideals are the same.

It is played out in Naruto that way, Yes Nagato can be said to be Naruto Older Brother and Naruto the younger, you can also say sines Jiraiya was their teacher He is the Father Figure to both as the Sage of the 6 path was to His sons. And in future story of Naruto or some other character the author may right in the future it might be a reoccurring theme.

I did some changes to my original post here.

Lately I have been thinking about sage mode and it's origins and something interesting came to my attention when I did some extra manga reading on sage mode and the toads.

ONLY 4 shinobi have used sage mode, this is quite staggering. Naruto and Jiraiya are sages of recent times the only other two sages are Ma and Pa frog and they are approx 800 years old. So at least 800 years has past until the next two sages appeared (Naruto and Jiraiya). As you can see there's a very short list to the sage club. Note there's a lot of shinobi that have failed in the past,all the frog stone statues at toad mountain.

So far all we know about sage mode is you need large amounts of chakra AND guts. Surely there must have been shinobi in the past with those attributes and yet so many have failed. Not even many toads can use sage mode, only Pa and Ma frog can use it so a toad contract doesn't increase the chances either. There is also the Great Toad Sage (大ガマ仙人, Ōgama Sennin), I think he's called a sage because hes lived a long time and with age(1000+) hes become very wise also lets not forget he can see the future in his dreams. You can also call someone a sage based from their vast knowledge, similar to the Sage of 6 paths. I'm assuming So6P got sage status when he figured out all the mysteries of chakra, which back then would have looked godlike among other people. So I'm assuming, the Great Toad Sage and the Sage of 6 paths got called sages because of their vast knowledge, other wise you'd think pa frog would mention the Great Toad Sage in particular as one of Naruto's predecessor of sage mode. But I can be wrong, if they are shown using sage mode in the future.

There must be a unique requirement to use sage mode similar to bloodline limits, only time will tell.

Some people are thinking that Sage mode is a bloodline limit but there has been 4 sages seen using sage arts all of which are not genetically related. So bloodline limit is not a good way to describe this rarity in the history of Naruto.

Another possible theory going around is, maybe just like how a shinobi has an affinity to a certain nature element like wind, a shinobi may need an affinity to Natural energy to use sage mode. This could explain why only 4 shinobi in the history of Naruto have used sage mode. This actually doesn't sound so far fetched as you can have an affinity to a certain animal to use it as summonings. Jiraiya had a very good affinity to the toads as he was able to come into contact with the toads even before signing a blood contact via the summoning technique. This could have something to with the degree of how well you are able to use natural energy. Though you could also argue this was fate as the toad sage predicted this would happen and same goes for Naruto in a way as he too ended up being the destined child which the toad sage predicted also. The toad sage didn't predicted it would be Naruto but he did predict it would be one of Jiraiya's students.

I think this quite interesting and I'm hoping Kishi elaborates more about Sage Mode's origins.

he has just hafly mastered it.konoha has a long history and may be there were many sage in the past.naruto mastered sage mode cuz he has will to never give up+ kyuubi's chakra.may be sage were chosen by birth,their fate.

They were the 3 Sannins .. thats 3 Nins in japanese (San - 3 , Nin ) ... Sen is different from San .. Sennin would mean a Sage-nin and hence senjutsu.

Naruto calls Jiraiya, Ero-Sennin not Sannin.

In my book, Orochimaru didn't have the guts to never give up (Jiraiya breaks it down to him when they fight pre-time-skip), and Tsunade doesn't have the huge chakra amount (speculation on the latter). It would also be kind of boring if all the major summons had sage mode.

The summonings are all unique and useful to their user. Orochimaru had that weird ass substitution vomit jutsu, and Tsunade's slug dispersion and heal jutsu is great. Sarutobi's monkey god could turn into a diamond shaped weapon, etc.
