All these sarcastic answers, when you open any gate you're body is working at optimal levels to keep up with the enhanced strength due to this even if someone uses something like the 7th gate, they would surely get hurt, even if they didn't attack. To awaken the eigth gate of death you have to puncture your heart so yeah you're going to die from that too even if you don't attack, you just punctured your heart for one and your body is still working excessively harder than ever so yep.
