[Theory] Could the new Uchiha be Itachi's lover?

First off, we still have no confirmation as to whether this new character is a male or female, and I couldn't think of anybody else that'd be willing to avenge Itachi's death.

There is absolutely no way Itachi and Obito eliminated the entire clan, there would have had to be members on vacation somewhere else, right? Or hell, even people they thought were dead like Obito.

Obito claimed to Sasuke that Itachi had killed everyone, even his lover.

However, it's been known while Obito was telling Sasuke most of the truth, he threw in his own lies like the Kurama attack being a "natural disaster".

And what if this girl was one that followed the will of fire? Surely Itachi wouldn't kill his own girlfriend if she was never part of the coup.

If this was the case, he probably found a way to sneak her out of the village.

When she found out Itachi had died fighting Sasuke, she probably jumped to the conclusion Sasuke directly kill him, obtained the Mangekyo Sharingan, and plotted for revenge against Sasuke.

Would she know that he knows the truth? She might not have known that Itachi wanted to die by Sasuke's hand. We'll, if it's really his girlfriend....

although it does make sense if its shisui in the akatsuki cloak

I've seen this idea entertained before, but I doubt it.

I don't think Kishimoto would bother having a female antagonist. He excels at writing antagonists (bar Kaguya... who was female lol), but in one of his recent interviews he said the thing he had most difficulty with was drawing and writing female characters.

General consensus for that "girlfriend" is that it was just some girl Itachi was going to have an arranged marriage with in the future so that someone would be able to be the new clan heir after Itachi would be promoted to clan leader himself.

Also, I think that bit was just added in to make Itachi's story more tragic. In 2012, Kishimoto was asked during an RTN interview if Itachi had a gf and he replied that he probably did since he was popular in Konoha. Given the reply of "he probably did, he was popular", Kishimoto doesn't remember what he wrote about that and it's an insignificant detail to him.

It would be an interesting plot twist, but I doubt Kishimoto would want to undertake something like that.

No. He's referring to the one in the Akatsuki cloak- their gender is not confirmed.

It's not Shisui. Or anyone Itachi was shown on panel with from part one or two. Translators have mentioned that the mystery man/woman talks oddly - like Kurama/Hagoromo/Zetsu, etc do. Like someone who's seen alot and been around a while. Or, they're being controlled by a genjutsu, but this is unlikely because that would mean this series has another antagonist, someone who is controlling them... this is a short series and there's not enough time for something like that to be written in.

Shisui was the most prominent genjutsu user of the Uchiha clan during his lifetime. Kishimoto isn't going to say he magically came back to life and is now being controlled with something he was the best at during his time.

Shisui was the most prominent genjutsu user of the Uchiha clan during his lifetime. Kishimoto isn't going to say he magically came back to life and is now being controlled with something he was the best at during his time.

You seem to forget the same thing happened with Obito. You can't cast away anything as of yet, and can't let go of something not tangible, so yeah. I'll just take it with a grain of salt, anything can happen, your idea isn't much stronger either.

Even though Kishimoto has seemingly developed huge parts of the plot on things that were deemed "insignificant" in the past (i.e. Tobi being Obito when people assumed he was nothing more than character development for Kakashi), making a character like this "Itachi's lover", who was mentioned even less than entities such as Jashin or Sarutobi Sasuke, isn't going to happen.
