So apparently, the state of Alabama has put up warnings on their science books about the theory of Evolution. And apparently, this is something that has sparked up quite a bit of controversy.

Specifically, this is what they say.

This textbook discusses evolution, a controversial theory some scientists present as a scientific explanation for the origin of living things, such as plants, animals and humans. No one was present when life first appeared on Earth. Therefore, any statement about life's origins should be considered a theory. The word evolution may refer to many types of change. Evolution describes changes that occur within a species. (White moths, for example, may evolve into gray moths.) This process is microevolution, which can be observed and described as fact. Evolution may also refer to the change of one living thing to another, such as reptiles into birds. This process, called macroevolution, has never been observed and should be considered a theory. Evolution also refers to the unproven belief that random, undirected forces produced a world of living things. There are many unanswered questions about the origin of life which are not mentioned in your textbook, including: Why did the major groups of animals suddenly appear in the fossil record, (known as the Cambrian Explosion)? Why have no new major groups of living things appeared in the fossil record in a long time? Why do major groups of plants and animals have no transitional forms in the fossil record? How did you and all living things come to possess such a complete and complex set of instructions for building a living body? Study hard and keep an open mind.

Soooo....After reading all this what do you think ? :coffee:

Well the south of the US is considered the "Bible belt". So this warning makes sense.

Lol all you have to do is memorise this and pass and forget it if you want.
I'm religious but the only thing I have to disagree on is the evolution of human beings, the rest is all fine and plausible.

Seriously though. I don't find it that big of a deal. Although I hinted at a slight bias towards creationism, but I think it highlights an important point and teaches kids to keep their minds open and again emphasizes that Evolutionism is still technically a theory despite it's almost global acceptance

The funny thing I think is how clever of a move this is. Creationists writing a carefully worded piece that they knew would draw a negative crowd from basically everyone else. Then they could point out the hypocrisy where they could easily defend their piece by saying there's no forceful implications of creationism in it. Whereas in the past Creationists have been known to unreasonably argue against Evolution where Evolutionists could easily defend their stance

I have to say I do like this "warning" a lot. I'm not a very religious person and I do think that evolution sounds more... plausible? However I also do believe that there is SOMETHING bigger than us. If there is a beeing like a god, why not believe that the evolution did happen but on his/her (little nudge against gender here hehe) doing?

Never mind the above mentioned gossip - in my opinion this is a masterpiece of political phrasing.

Ooooh I was just having a discussion about the theory of life. I explained to a friend of mine about the cosmological constant. The Cosmo constant is a math equation that marks the expansion of the universe. This constant is very precise. 10 to the 125 power precise. To put that into prospective it would be the equivilant of stacking dimes as wide as Russia and as tall as the moon and then picking a dime and placing it back and asking a friend to pick out that exact dime. If he doesn't pick the dime then life as we know it would never exist. But in the universes case the dime was picked and we are here today. This leaves 3 options on how this was possible,

Option one- we were lucky enough to pick the dime which would have been mathematically impossible
Option two- there is actually such thing as a multiverse with intimate possibilities. In other words there are an intimate number of universes that didn't pick the dime and we were the ones that did.
Option three- we were created by something that finely tuned us to work the way we do

Now to consider a creation however would go against every law of physics that has ever been made. Take for example the Big Bang. The Big Bang happened and the universe was made. Now we can't ask what happened before the Big Bang be wise there was no before the Big Bang. But Einstein states that for anything to happen there has to be a catalyst for that thing to happen in. Smoke doesn't happen without a fire. So how could the Big Bang have happened if there was nothing to cause the Big Bang. I could go on and on about this but I'm not gonna invest any more energy in this post unless I see someone is actually interested in discussing the topic

What do I think? I think a lot of things but I refuse to say them on the internet for fear of the sea of comments that will come my way.

@Bold, the beginning of the Universe means the beginning of Physics. Physics can't exist before time itself. Therefore Einstein's statement can't be true until the exact moment the universe came to be. Which is equally as mind-boggling.

True, but they are making some progress compared to a few decades ago. They aren't trying to ban the curriculum or re-write the science.

Just the typical bible thumping area of the States professing their idiocy like usual. I'll never, for the life of me understand how people are so dumb that they keep associate a scientific theory with the traditional definition of a theory. Scientific theories have more proof than Kim Kardashian being a skank. It's an obscene amount of proof that leads to a scientific theory becoming prominent. Evolution is complete fact. Whether you choose to believe it or not doesn't make it any less true.

creation and evolution are part of the same process, both exist of course and they are ok but not the way it's actually explained by religioustards and sciencetards.

i hate both because they are useless extremists, they don't respect Life and in my book that's just plain wrong :coffee:
