This should be a fairly obvious thread to most, but I've seen a lot of people claiming that Orochimaru could, feasibly, beat Itachi. I actually used to claim this pretty often, myself, and I think setting up a thread to prove, once and for all, that Orochimaru would never beat Itachi in a fair fight.
I like to go with the scan that shows Orochimaru breaking out of Sasuke's genjutsu during the body possession. I think it shows Orochimaru is capable of countering 3T genjutsu, but that doesn't really make a difference to me in a fight against Itachi. A fight with Itachi is a fight where you really need to either have the absolute best genjutsu-dispelling abilities or be a natural wielder of the Sharingan, IE an Uchiha like Sasuke. Once Orochimaru is caught in Tsukuyomi, there's nothing he can do about it until the genjutsu is over. This doesn't make Orochimaru a weak character by any means, it just means he's susceptible to one of the most powerful genjutsu in the setting, second possibly to KA.
Then, of course, there's Susanoo, with the Totsuka Blade and Yata Mirror, which was already shown easily stomping Orochimaru's most powerful jutsu. Even if it weren't the Totsuka Blade, Itachi slashing at the snake was enough to deal with it, so odds are Itachi's Susanoo would have eventually overpowered Orochimaru if he were just using any normal sword. Of course, the Yata Mirror is invulnerable to all damage, so Orochimaru doesn't have anything that can break through it.
... That's about it, really. Don't get me wrong, Orochimaru is my favorite character in Naruto, but I think people should just come clean and admit when one character would beat another, and it's been shown far too many times that Itachi just has all the right tools to counter everything Orochimaru can throw at him. It's just getting a little frustrating, in all honesty, and nobody's been able to give a really reasonable argument for Orochimaru beating Itachi, and when I was defending it I was giving BS arguments.
If anyone could present a reasonable argument for Orochimaru winning, I'd love to hear it.
