There is still a big question as to what the "New Era Project" actually meant.
Not only that, Kishi has yet to show Naruto actually achieving peace. (His peace world shown in the end is the same as Hashirama's peace world which in reality as said by Madara was a failed world).
The only way kishi could wrap this up is a part 3. But doing so will take a lot of preparation. If part 3 does happen, either it will start one or two years later or start with the Naruto mini-series.
Long story short, Kishi needs a break, so he is doing the right thing now. U_U

I think the Tomoe have more than one meaning. I agree with aimop95 that too much can be read into the Occult imagery used in the manga but at the same time I've read so many theories about Freemasonry and the "Illuminati" written by people who have no idea what they are talking about. I happened to have a professor who had an academic interest in the matter while I was studying European History. It's mumbo jumbo for sure, but there are interesting stories behind its symbolism.
The mark of the beast is simply a nod to Kishi's brother's work and perhaps a hint at Orochimaru being more than he appears. I'll go into the other half of the imagery below.
I've been writing theories about Orochimaru since before he was resurrected. Given everything we know about Orochimaru anything less than a spectacular finish to Orochimaru won't convince me that he's dead. Despite what the spoilers have claimed both now and before 700, Orochimaru's story isn't finished. I still think that there's more to come from Orochimaru - I'll go into some of it below and I'll come back to Oro's future next time. For now, I'll leave you with…
Uchiha
The Uchiha Clan have a complicated history to say the least and so far I think we have only scratched the surface of their origins and the meaning of their legacy. In this chunk, I thought I would revisit the Uchiha Massacre and see whether there is anything in the Symbolism surrounding the Uchiha Clan that might explain where it all went wrong for the cursed clan.
Sasuke’s Investigation
At the end of Part 2, Sasuke departs Konoha in order to investigate something that has been bothering him. He gives no explanation to his future wife, he reassures her that everything is all right and then he departs:

Years later and Sasuke is still traipsing through the woods to try and uncover something, while the rest of the village is enjoying the villages’ new found peace

So what has been bothering Sasuke? I think that there is something about the Uchiha massacre that is nagging at him but he doesn’t know quite what since he doesn’t have all the pieces. We know much more about the massacre than Sasuke is aware of but there is still a mystery to be solved. What follows is an attempt, to try and put together all the pieces.
We have a fairly full account of the Uchiha Massacre. Itachi served as a double agent between his clan and the village spying on both sides until he was faced with a choice. Either Itachi could side with his clan and see the village descend into a civil war that the Uchiha could not win and which might lead to foreign invasions or he could save his brother and the village by annihilating his clan. Sasuke chose his brother…
The Choice:

Shisui attempted a peaceful solution that required him to place his clan under his spell but this attempt was in vain as Danzo eliminated him before he ever got the chance:

What has never been addressed is why the Uchiha wanted to rebel in the first place. Tobi puts the blame squarely on the Senju for sidelining the once proud Uchiha:

Orochimaru conveniently backs up this view by blaming Tobirama for appointing the Uchiha as Konoha’s police force:

…but from what little we know of Sasuke’s family, they were all extremely proud of serving the law:

The explanation that the Uchiha were simply resentful of the Senju pushing them to one side does not ring true. One of the developments that was revealed late in Part 2 was how Black Zetsu had aligned himself with the Uchiha underground:

Certainly BZ could be to blame for enflaming Uchiha resentment since he is also credited with doing the same to Indra. Still… the Uchiha curse seems to have existed before Black Zetsu’s involvement because Black Zetsu only tempted Indra after he had already fought a war with his brother:

Some things just don’t add up and I don’t think it is by accident. When Sasuke fought Danzo, Sasuke asked about the eyes on Danzo’s arm. Danzo says that it is a long story to which Sasuke responds that the answer would only serve to fuel his anger. There is clearly a story there but Sasuke was in no fit state to listen to it:

Sasuke had his chance to learn the truth but he squandered it. There are only three people left who know the full story. Koharu Utatane, Homura Mitokado and Orochimaru…

Of those three, Koharu and Homura can be considered to have been looking after the best interests of the village since they believed that the Demon Fox attack had been the work of the Uchiha Clan:

…but we also know that Danzo worked to make Orochimaru the Third’s successor after Hiruzen’s retirement – this is hinted at in the Manga but developed further in the Anime – Orochimaru was narrowly beaten to the job of Yondaime by Minato:

The only one in a position to manipulate both the Konoha Top Brass and the Uchiha into bringing civil war was Orochimaru. As a member of ANBU and with no interest in the security of the Land of Fire, Orochimaru was the only one with the means and opportunity to play both sides against each other. This would explain the full mystery of why the Uchiha rose up in the first place – they were fed misinformation by their “other connections in ANBU”:

Orochimaru might have claimed that he was only after Sharingan but he had had first dibs on the eyes collected after the Uchiha Massacre – Tobi got the other half (eyes come in pairs but these eyes are separated into single eyes):

So what is the connection between Orochimaru and the Uchiha? I suspect that Orochimaru is a relative of the Uchiha that is tethered to the real world until he can find the right body to free himself. Indra and Asura transmigrated through the generations until they were able to reconcile their differences. Naruto and Sasuke are the last generation of these transmigrants since they made their peace:

In Buddhist tales of the Naga, the Snake is not allowed to reach the next stage of enlightenment until it has taken human form. If Kishi follows these legends then Sasuke is Orochimaru’s ticket to a better world.
But that still doesn’t explain the connection between Orochimaru and the Uchiha. In order to explain this link I think that it is necessary to look at some Japanese Imperial History.
The Yamato Dynasty
In Japan, the Imperial Family was not just the seat of power, they were the focal point of the nation’s religion. Sasuke does not have a throne but he seems to have taken on the Emperor’s family tree through the powers he has inherited.
In the manga the closest thing you will find to an Emperor in Naruto is the Fire Lord who is technically the ruler of the Fire Country which includes Konoha as well. The Fire Lord doesn’t appear much but when he does he is mostly dealt with as comic relief. This man might be the ruler but he has no authority, is easily manipulated and is more of a nuisance that the Hokage must indulge than a leader.
The Fire Lord is easily duped by Danzo into passing over Kakashi as a temporary replacement for the wounded Tsunade after Pain’s invasion and during the war the Fire Lord plays cards so as not to get in the way:

This character is something of a parody of what the Emperor has become in Japan since its defeat in WW2. After the war the Emperor Hirohito was forced to make a public address acknowledging Japan’s defeat and accepting its occupation. America was happy to maintain the Emperor in his seat so long as Japan could be quickly pacified and turned into a potential ally against the growing threat of Communism in Russia and China. This speech was the first time that the public had heard the voice of the Emperor…many did not even understand him since he spoke an archaic and aloof form of Japanese unfamiliar to the common man (much like the effete tones of the Fire Lord):

These tools are perhaps the most holy relics in Japan. They are only seen by priests and the Emperor (no photographs exist) and are used for the coronation (no spectators allowed).
Ninigi married Konohanasakuya-hime (from whom we get both Konoha and Sakura). Ninigi’s grandson, Emperor Jimmu, began the conquest of Japan from Hyuuga and captured Yamato (now the Nara prefecture), which would become the seat of Imperial power (hence the Yamato Dynasty).

The Uchiha family crest pays homage to the Legend of Sojobo (King of the Tengu – Like the Uchiha’s Susanoo). Sojobo carried a magical fan called the Tengu no-Uchiwa. Uchiha translates as fan and Sasuke has been linked to this fan since very early in the Manga:

Interesting but so far so unremarkable… what interests me more is the Emperor’s bloodline that did not originate with the gods but with creatures that existed and comingled with the gods. The Emperor of Japan does not just claim divine blood but dragon blood as well.
Ryujin
Orochimaru is an interesting mix of dragons from Japanese and Buddhist folklore. His name, like the names of each of the Three Legendary Sannin, is taken directly from The Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya (Jiraiya Gōketsu Monogatari / 児雷也豪傑物語 - first recorded in 1806 though perhaps much older). This tale is the legend of Jiraiya, a ninja who uses shapeshifting magic to morph into a gigantic toad. In the tale, Jiraiya fell in love with Tsunade (綱手), a beautiful young maiden who has mastered slug magic. His arch-enemy and one-time follower Yashagorō (夜叉五郎), later known as Orochimaru (大蛇丸), is a master of serpent magic (the kanji 大蛇 literally mean "giant snake" or "serpent").

While the Orochimaru might have gotten his name from an old folk tale of magic and ninjas, his name could also be said to have been inspired by Yamato-no-Orochi a dragon who fought and was killed by Susanoo. Before Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi fell into the hands of Ninigi it resided within the tail of a great dragon with eight heads. In the Manga as in the fables, it was Susanoo who captured Kusanagi by cutting down Yamato-no Orochi (the blade was found in the snake’s tail – also like Itachi Susanoo used the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi to cut down the serpent):

As a result of his bravery (though perhaps cunning would be a better word… he got the snake drunk and then chopped off its 8 heads), Susanoo married Kushinadahime (Naruto’s indirect connection to Japan’s Pantheon since she was not a god which is fitting since Naruto’s heritage comes from abroad and the Land of Eddys):

Just as Captain Yamato might take his name from the seat of Imperial power in Japan so might he also take his name from Yamato-no-Orochi. The Yamato that we know is the product of Orochimaru’s experiments:

He was also born in the Yamato works, which might explain where Orochimaru gets the finances to conquer small countries, build such extravagant laboratories and hire armies (industrialist Orochimaru would fit right in to the new Konoha):

We still don’t know what happened to Yamato after the war. He was released from Infinite Tsukuyomi but it’s unclear whether he returned to the village or ended up somewhere else … (more next time).
Orochimaru’s design is a mixture of a lot of folklore dragons and monsters from Japan. Here is Kiyohime, a tea maid who transformed into a dragon after being spurned by a Buddhist priest…

We’ve only gotten a glimpse of Orochimaru in his full dragon form. Despite what Kabuto has been led to believe Orochimaru can take shape as a giant serpent and not just his Power of the White Snake (which is a fraction of the size).
Watatsumi like the primary gods of Japan (Izanagi, Izanaim, Amaterasu, Susanoo, Mikoto …) is also one of the ancestors of Emperor Jimmu. What makes me think that Kishi might be foreshadowing a possible Ancestry from the Uchiha to Orochimaru is that the Uchiha Clan appears to go to temple at the Watatsumi Shrine (*it’s not an exact match – there are elements taken from other shrines as well but it’s the closest match I could find)…

The Three forces
In the Naruto series, we were introduced to three types of energies namely, Yang, Yin and Shizen.
Interestingly these energies rhyme very well with real world forces.
Yin - Darkness - Destruction.
Yang - Light - Preservation.
Shizen - Nature - Creation.
The coming together of these three powers are symbolized by :-

In the whole series, only one clan has shown to posses the dual power of Mangekyo and Rinne, the Uchiha Clan.
I think the power of Mangekyo came from Hagoromo, the Garuda.

Forget about combining the powers of Rinne and Mangekyo, no one in the Uchiha clan couldn't even use them simultaneously.

3) If the three forces are counter-balanced, The Power of Mangekyo is born and the Byakugan/Rinnegan transforms into the Mangekyo Sharingan.
4) When the power of Rinne and Mangekyo come together, The All Seeing Eye is born.
5) The Uchiha Clan had the dual power of Rinne and Mangekyo, but they were never able to simultaneously use or combine them.

7) Orochimaru wants Sasuke as a vessel and as such manipulated him (The Uchiha Clan Massacre, Itachi's Death, The Fourth Shinobi World War and Kaguya's revival) to awaken the All Seeing Eye (The symbol of the Ultimate Being).
The spoiler of "The Last" in which Orochimaru, Karin and Juugo died and the Uchiha Massacre plot was fake. In the movie, the Uchiha Massacre plotline never happened and Orochimaru along with Team Taka did not even appear in the movie. This I think leaves Orochimaru as a potential villain for part 3.

When Sasuke talks about the world's greatest darkness (A throwoff to Satan); we see Sasuke, Madara, Deva Pain (Who was the representation of Akatsuki including Nagato and Obito) and Kaguya.

This includes all the major forces which represented the evil/darkness in NV. What's interesting to me is that while, Sasuke, Madara and Deva Pain are facing forward, Kaguya is facing backwards.
Perhaps this was a hint by Kishi that unlike the other three, Kaguya had no intentions of turning evil ?
When I read this: "After introducing next year's movie and the Naruto exhibition 2015, Kishimoto also revealed that Orochimaru, Kabuto, and other lesser characters would be re-appearing in the Boruto series, in order to finish the main plot."
So, this most likely proves that Orochimaru and Kabuto are still relevant in the "main" plot, which is STILL not over. I'm really excited.
So I’ve covered most of the reasons why I think Orochimaru might be the root of all the troubles in the Narutoverse. There were a lot of fake spoilers about Orochimaru dying in The Last. It seems rumours of his demise were premature. That leaves the question where next for the Demon?
I took time out to read 666 Satan properly and I think that Kishi’s twin’s manga holds a lot of clues. I’m not sure whether one brother has ripped off the other or whether they just work in conjunction with each other but the parallels are almost endless. The two are still distinct manga but at times it’s as though the same pieces are being used to put together two jigsaws.
It’s not a sure thing that Kishi will continue the manga much further. He might enjoy taking a break from weekly deadlines too much… but I think there is ample reason to think that Kishi has left the door open on purpose so that he can come back for at least one last arc, focused on the Demon. Anyway here are a couple of ideas that were playing on my mind while reading 666 Satan...

It could just be that the display was used to hide the key to the Reaper Death Seal. This makes sense though it is not made entirely clear in the manga. However in 666 Satan the tools of Satan are similarly contained in a collection of artifacts:

The RDS mask has many of the features of the Ootsutsuki Clan. From "The Last" spoilers it would seem that most of the Ootsutsuki were left to guard the moon (where Kaguya was sealed) in order to prevent a second apocalypse. The Last tells us that only one Ootsutsuki kept his vigil (though he appears to have gone crazy).
That makes me think that maybe, just maybe, the masks represent 27 Ootsutsuki who were trapped in the masks that decorate the Uzumaki shrine. The other 26 could be members of the long forgotten clan, charged with securing the body of the Rabbit Goddess that almost became the vessel of the Demon and which was sealed in the moon by Hagoromo and Hamura.
The masks gathered by the Uzumaki need not be the only masks with power. Spiral Zetsu can encase a body with his Mokuton form but there’s a chance that his true form is that of the mask that made Tobi famous:

Spiral is likely the starting point for the New Era Project. It appears to me that Sasuke is spooked by Spiral while out on his unspecified travels to uncover something that had been bothering him. It would not surprise me if Spiral prevented Sasuke’s return to his loving family:

Spiral’s background was never fully explained. I suspect he was once Indra because of his Spiral Design. The Spiral was Indra’s awakened dojutsu:

Well, Orochimaru could give Sasuke a left arm for the Yin Seal and Naruto's Prosthetic arm could get corrupted by Orochimaru for the Yang seal (Hashirama's Cells = Zetsu DNA which came from Gedo Mazou). So, Orochimaru could use both of them to Dispel Chibaku Tensei and release the Gedo Mazou from it's prison.

Spiral Zetsu is no longer a shell, because he absorbed the Shinju with all the chakra unlike during the Gedo Mazou phase when he was a shell.

Glad you enjoyed it. I've got another segment coming up that should be good. I keep on finding new material that forces me to rewrite it but it should be done in the next day or so.
I've got some ideas on this that I'll come back to. I think that The Last might have a lot of clues but I've only been able to read a handful of spoilers so far and it may take a while before we get a Fansub of the movie let alone the Official Sub. That said, the spoilers contain what might be some pretty significant clues. Here're some rough ideas in outline… I couldn't fit these ideas into the new segment I'm working on but they'll have to do for now….
Random Speculation
If I were to hazard a guess I would go with the RDS being either the spirit of Hamura or one of the Ootsutsuki sent to guard the Moon. The RDS has the robes, skin, the hair, the markings, the fingernails and the horns typical of the Ootsutsuki. The RDS appears to be at the disposal of anyone who knows the right commands or has possession of the mask…

It’s by no stretch a sure thing but there are connections to be made between the fall of the Ootsutsuki, the fall of the Uzumaki and the rise of the Demon. The RDS even appears to be a victim of the Cursed Seal…
Sasuke Stage 1:
There isn’t any kind of crossover if that’s what you’re getting at. Essentially a lot of the same ideas that were tried out in 666 are being used in Naruto (I could bore you with every little detail but there are more than I could easily count). The Sun symbol on an Uzumaki grave (?) points to the Uzumaki having greater significance in the future. Quite what that significance is going to be is uncertain as yet but I think it might have something to do with the heavens.

More on Orochimaru's Ring Hand later. For now suffice to say that Orochimaru is not tied to any one body. Orochimaru did lose his Left Hand and he (or Kabuto) preserved that hand. Orochimaru did not grow a new hand, rather he took a new host who had a Left Hand and he rewrote himself over his new body.
Orochimaru's essence is not tied to any one body. His Immortality Jutsu has allowed him to move from body to body only needing to swap when his host begins to deteriorate. Orochimaru's Left Hand should be a suitable replacement for Sasuke's stump.
Sasuke Left Hand:
Chibaku Tensei is formed when the Yin and Yang Seals come together. It's obvious that if the two seals can cast Chibaku Tensei, then they can dispel it too. Naruto and Sasuke will probably need Kaguya's help against the Demon. That's if Naruto comes back for a fresh run - which is still uncertain though hopeful if the latest announcements are reliable.

I doubt that Spiral is the original Shinju if only because the plant that was grown by cultivating the Gedo Mazo with the Bijuu's chakra was very different to the tree that Hagoromo revered. I tend to think that Spiral was at one stage a human. I'm still sticking with Indra but it's up for debate...
