Disclaimer: I'm not Sakura or Ino hater, just trying to give more objective opinion about Hinata because I thought that the thread "Hinata is a bad character" was wrong in many parts.
Let me try to show that she is not that bad character, and for me she is just perfect character.
Firstly, Hinata's lack of confidence was due to her father, who treated her like a looser, however thanks to Naruto she became even more confident when confronting obstacle or someone in a fight than Sakura. For example, Naruto vs Pain, compare what Hinata did to what Sakura did:
Another example is when Neji saved Naruto, if Neji would not be on the way of those wood spears, Hinata would die - saving Naruto, 'cause she was also protecting him (she was determined to die for Naruto's sake):
People keep saying that Hinata only wishes for Naruto's attention, not that I hate Sakura and Ino, but if you think more objectively about it Sakura is even worse, all her talk was Sasuke (when he was in the village), she didn't even hide her attraction to Sasuke, even though he rejected her so many times, in the end it was so pathetic of her to ask Sasuke to stay with her, when he was about to fight Naruto. Same thing goes to Ino, she was running towards Sasuke (traitor in those chapters) when he just arrived to battlefield. Sakura and Ino had pure sexual attraction towards Sasuke. In contrast Hinata, would never act like them, for her Naruto was more like a motivation, a person whom she admired for, because he was able to withstand all hatred he was exposed to when he was kid, and become someone very important for the village. One additional thing is, she actually won Naruto's love by helping him when he was in need, while Sakura did nothing but rely on Naruto. Example:
There are many more things that can be added, but this is my opinion, which I think more objective about Hinata as a character. What do you think?
