Why do religious people feel the need to shove their beliefs down people's throats?

Peoole bash anything they dislike or disagree with.
They don't have to do it so rudely. What do they hope to accomplish? The purpose of an argument/debate is to persuade and change someone's mind or at least make them see from a different perspective.

Being offensive yields no results.

As I stated in my thread, listening and asking the right questions will lead to a better understanding as to why they believe in it in the first place, without having to quarrel and bicker.

Besides, from my own personal perspective, again this is just my opinion, the difference between religion and atheism is that when you spread religion, it's with the intention of saving someone's soul or helping them reach enlightenment; with atheism, it has a less noble intention which makes me more lenient in my view of spreading religion over atheism.

But like I said in my thread, I don't believe in asserting beliefs on others in a forceful way be it religion or atheism.

One quote I've read from a book was that "the path to hell is paved with good intentions" and that's very true.

As a Christian, I am supposed to tell other people about Christ and what He has done because that is what He told us to do.
Yeah, but most of the time you should ask "Do you have a moment to hear about our Lord and Savior?" making it a polite way to ask if they want to hear about your beliefs rather than just simply imposing them on someone.

That's not all. They also try to tell other people how to live their lives when in fact they are living the exact same way as non-Christians are.

Who are they to tell other people how they should live their life? Since when was their word law?

People don't have to be religious to shove their beliefs down other's throats. You can notice it everyday from all kinds of people, religious or not. Religion is not the issue.

Every time I see a religion bashing thread on any forum, I honestly advise people to say "Nice opinion" and move on. The only benefit you get from acting like a fool on a religion bashing thread is 5 posts added to your PC

People are stupid, that is why, despite the fact very few bash religion or the like. I myself, personally tend to violently take care of religion and or free thinker haters and such, so I am no saint at all, God forgive me for all I did and do, but I believe power is the way to peace. (Yeah, like Indra, Madara, Sasule and company and such, but it so happens atheists and people like them such as power-fueled business people, bow to power they cannot compete against).

Enough of this stupidity. The only way for cooperation is for others to accept others, despite different beliefs and such. Wake the hell up.

Because it is funny!

Just kidding, I personally do not believe in any religion (I am Agnostic) however I certainly do not condemn those who do. While I don't agree with the concept of a religion I can see why one would and thus I do not bash religion in any case.

Nice one. Thumbs up for the thread.
As for me, it is always,
for you, your religion/faith and for me, my religion/faith. And humanity above all religions.
I always believe that all religions are teaching a good way of life to human. It is just certain evil humans interprete it so shallow, as they pleased in order to achieve their selfish evil goals. Nowadays the media owned bybcertain politicians and powerful people are just used to manipulate people's mind (including me). The unknown is what we are afraid of and the superior feeling that make us bash/disrespect others' faith and even bully or even others because of their faith? Sadly.

I'm technically atheist and I have never full blown bashed any religion... but on more then one occasion I have tried to have a fun scientific conversation about earth, stars, the universe, ect, and at some point my Christian friend always gets angry... heck the first time I talked to him about that stuff he actually threatened to punch me in the face in I didn't shut up.. and then went on to teach me about a religion I already know just about everything about... this has happened to me multiple times ... not by the same guy or girl but you know... point is it seems like religious people bash others more often than atheist bash them.

what annoys me is that they reach about how people should act and then go off and do the bad things they told you not to do... you ask them how they could do that wont they go to hell an they say "no god will forgive me if I ray to him" (not exactly tat but basically what they say) that's one reason why I became atheist... I cant follow a god that is willing to forgive those that disobey his rules countless times, simply because they ask for it.

Isn't that the same thing with any type of person? They tell you not to do something and yet they do it anyway. That's not exclusive to religious people.

People are flawed and will always break their own rules even if they don't mean it. That's no reason to disbelieve in something since religion is a personal thing and has a different meaning to each individual.

But as for God being forgiving. Imagine if you were God and you created everyone and gave them free will. They are in a sense, your children. Deep down, no matter how much children misbehave, the parent will still love them in the end.

We might think we're mature and old, but to God, we are still children. Our wisdom and age pales in comparison to his.

There is always a chance for redemption if those that seek it are truly committed. God only forgives those who are truly regretful.

I don't think most bash religion because they want destroy their peace of mind or finding pleasure in it. If you are doing something in a right way and then you see someone doing it wrong way you laugh at him, talk about him in your group or tell him hey dude that is stupid. You cant leave them to be monkeys or let them live them in their dreams. The sense of superiority and righteousness. Even for believers, they think they are right. They can not ignore each other, eventually they clash.

What does it matter what others believe in? As long as they are happy and aren't affecting your lives or the lives of others negatively, then there is no reason to do that because we all live and exist in this world striving for happiness anyways; we just have different ways of achieving it.

Well, there's the kicker. Religion affects a lot of people who are not religious. This is one reason why they become frustrated.

I like this part. Have been observing this too. Humans always tend to feel superiority belonging to the "better" group and always forget in first place that humanity and being human is what bounds them.

Because they portray their beliefs, which is faith without evidence, as fact. But the real reason people get aggitated is the confidence that religious people bring, acting like they know the truth and as if there is no discussion possible. It's hilarious on one side but painfully irritating and contradicting on the other.

Most people who are atheist do the same. They don't even know the science behind their beliefs and instead just regurgitate one comment from Stephen Hawking or what some other scientist said because they are deemed "smart" and don't actually take the effort to read into quantum physics or anything else as to why Stephen Hawking believes in what he does.

Yet they act like they know the truth and are one sided as well without proper evidence.
