Because one of America's best exported products is entertainment and there's a bit of a, if it came out of the U.S it must be cool factor at play and American comics can reach a larger market because it has a bigger stage

Sales: because we have access to mangas online. I've read a couple of [marvel] comics online but they only allow a minute few to go publicly free. Some gives you a little taste of it then you'll have to purchase or get a subscription thing or something.

Story: I guess culture has to do with that.

Same with me, I don't know anyone that Reads american Comics, but I know many anime and manga readers.
The Manga sales aren't as high as comic book sales because we can get the manga for free while comics you have to pay for

I dislike some americans sometimes for this reason, they diss anime and Manga( and other things that aren't 100% the american way) without reading or experiencing it, then they act like they are experts on the topic when they are clearly not and they are just spewing bullshit. I know a couple people who are like this and they really get on my nerves

Have you read DC New 52 comics, they are awful.
Most of Marvel comics are either mediocre or recycled great stories from the past. Just look at Marvels plan for the future, you'll see lot of familiar title names.

Personally, I have no interest in the typical comic books, the whole superhero stuff. I'm a huge fan of Jhonen Vasquez's work though, [JTHM, Squee.] Whether it's Japanese or western doesn't matter to me, but what's popular in Japan has a lot more variety that the outdated stereotypes we have here about comic books. You like comic books, you like superheros! is still the idea most people have, you know, when we have so many other types of comics.
