Well technically anime and cartoons aren't that different since their animation.

There's a distinct style difference mainly having to do with cultural and historical influences on each.

Comic strips in the newspaper are technically comics, but clearly there is a difference between Peanuts and Batman.

That's my opinion on it anyway.
