On The Defensive: Countering Summons

Gaara being an aerial based fighter is already hard to deal with. Add in the fact that he is noted by Naruto (who just finished fighting the 3rd Raikage) to possess , landing a direct hit will be no easy task. Especially for a non long-range fighter.

Oil

The "oil" that was stated to be Gaaras weakness, and the oil that Jiraiya uses ,are not the exact same substance.

  • Trollkages Oil

The Trollkages oil, that Gaara has mentioned to seep through his sand and destroy it, isn't exactly just oil. It is a mixture of water and oil. This is proven when it was referred to as a " " thus implying that it isn't just oil, but water as well. This is confirmed to be the case, when Onoki was explaining the mechanics of Joki Boy. He mentioned that the Mizukages body contains .

  • Jiraiyas Oil

Now, the substance that Jiraiya uses is pure oil. A and very flammable substance.

The difference between the two, is that the oily water the Mizukage uses is very slick and slippery. Reason why Gaara noted it to seep threw his sand. While in contact with the sand, the watery oil turned it into a gooey, slimy, . Jiraiyas oil lacks the watery substance to make is slick and slippery in order for it seep threw Gaaras sand as effectively. It would just cause the sand to stick together and clump up. Also, it is worth mentioning that oil and water can not mix. So bringing up Gamabunta and Jiraiya synchronizing there Suiton+Oil attacks as they did with Katon+Oil is futile because it wouldn't work. The oily water is innate only to the Trollkage.

Katon

It has been stated multiple times that Gaaras sand won't be able to sustain the heat from techniques such as Jiraiyas collaborative Toad-Oil Flame Bullet and Goemon, but the manga specifically say's that fire is useless against sand [ ] which was made evident throughout the manga against much hotter and stronger variants of fire as Gaara's sand has shown to withstand attacks at a very high degree with no problem. The sand withstood Amaterasu [ ], said to be the hottest form of Katon. As well as Deidaras C3 [ ]-[ ]

Suiton

Gaara has shown to be able to manipulate his sand through water [ ] without it being tampered in the slightest bit. Thus, the summonings suiton attacks will be no issue for Gaara.

Kenjutsu

I already established how oil, water, and katon from Jiraiyas summons won't be a major factor in this match, so I might as well tackle everything else his summonings have to offer since people think it plays such a huge part in why Gaara will lose this match. Any kenjutsu such as Toad Sword Behading technique won't be effective in this match-up either. While it did in fact slice of the Shukakus arm, however Gaaras defense is much greater since then. Susano'o sword alone wasn't able to break Gaaras defenses [ ] It took 5 Susano'o swords just to overpower Gaaras sand [ ] but even though, the 5 Susano'o only managed to push Gaaras back, and didn't deal any significant amount of damage.

Countering Kuchiyose: Yatai Kuzushi no Jutsu

This is a worthy counter in order to stop Gaara from going airborne, however it is avoidable. How you may ask? The answer is substituting himself with a clone. Though, most likely being some sort of Space/Time Ninjutsu, it is still a form of summoning. Therefore the procedure requiring a summoning applies. Gaara who is known closely analyze his opponents will obviously take note of this and prepare accordingly. Between the time it takes to prepare the summoning and the the time before the animal is actually summoned and dropped, Gaara can use this window to create a . Take note of what Kakashi says in the scan that I provided. Gaara used a clone feint between the very small window provided when Lee stopped his body for only a split second [ ]. This allows Gaara to avoid Food Cart Destroyer and emerge from the ground unscathed.

This serves as a perfect segway into Gaara's counter attack.

He can begin on his counter attack.

Considering the fact that creating sand comes effortless for Gaara, he can immediately create a giant even in a grass field. Only this time, . This will blind Jiraiys line of sight, thus allowing Gaara to immediately go airborne and crash down on the boss toad and Jiraiya and sweep the entire area in sand. The Sand Tsunami will be followed by a , which will crush the feet of any of his summonings and ultimately make them immobile or better yet poof back where they came from. In the event that Jiraiya and the boss toad avoid the sand tsunami (by jumping over it) Gaara can quite easily just wait and anticipate where they're going to land and initiate a .

Gaara's Overwhelming Combos

Gaara is a very dangerous opponent given the fact that he can attack from the sky, surface, and below the surface almost simultaneously. While Jiraiya is focusing on avoiding the giant wave of sand crashing down on him, Gaara can prepare a as well as using the sand already on the surface to take hold of Jiraiyas feet to keep him from moving. The Suna Arare are giant clumps of sand that cover a wide area and crash down onto the opponent. Jiraiya being unable to move, will get pelted by this technique causing a great amount of damage.

Even if Jiraiya manages to survive such an onslaught of attacks, there is nothing stopping Gaara from proceeding with more. As Gaaras battle style is to distance himself far from the opponent and use continuous amounts of attacks to overwhelm the opponent. After the Suna Arare, Gaara can perform [ ] which will bury Jiraiya 200 Meters in the earth, with so much pressure that not even the smallest of movements are possible or finish him with a sand coffin/pyramid.

Gaara being an aerial based fighter is already hard to deal with.

Gaara's aerial speed is by no means fast. He simply levitates, he isn't flying or anything. Bunta's speed and suitons are more than enough to hit him.

Jiraiyas oil lacks the watery substance to make is slick and slippery in order for it seep threw Gaaras sand as effectively.

So? It would still make the sand unusable and easy to melt.

The sand withstood Amaterasu [1]

Wrong. That's Enton. A focused Amaterasu is -THE- hottest fire in existence, able to sear Danzo to a burning ember. When not focused, Amaterasu burns fairly slow, shown against Bee, Ay and the Samurai that was hit by it.

Jiraiya's fire + oil combination is more than enough to burn through sand, not to mention Goemon, which is said in the databook to be several thousand degrees hot, a temperature much higher than lava's.

Susano'o sword alone wasn't able to break Gaaras defenses

These swords are toothpicks compared to Bunta's sword, both height and thickness, not to mention one is used by a chakra being whereas the other is used by a gigantic toad.

Bunta cut through a bijuu's arm, which is clearly more durable than a heap of sand.

Only this time, in a much larger scale.

He made that in a desert.

Garra is my fave.

But I'll give the win to Jman high difficulty. But as OP stated, Garra generally is sprightly superior.
