If Sakura had a past, would it make her a better character.

A lot of people call her "useless" and she is. Then again, I see that she's hated or dislike by many Naru Sasuke Shippuden fans. Silly little girl tried to kill Sasuke, LMAO! Back to topic: If you dislike because she's "weak" then it's obvious you only care for action. Being weak doesn't make you a bad character. I can understand in the beginning where she constantly cried Sasuke and did nothing. Her character did get better during the Chunin Exams and Shippuden. Sakura is honestly a normal teenage. A lot of people like to compare her to Naruto and Sasuke. Their past is sad though.

Honestly, outside of Naruto, Sasuke, Sai, Rock Lee, Neji/Hinata, and possibly TenTen(She has no background, as far as family goes) They're just average teenagers, but Sakura still bares the title of being a main character.


So if she had a bad past, would that make her a better character. Maybe she'd be able understand Naruto and Sasuke on a more personal note rather than just friendship alone?

No , Sakura is terrible in every category , a sad past is not gonna make you a likable character , look at Kabuto for example : his past is one of the best ones IMO & he is one of the most hated characters in NB.

You would have have to fix her personality , development etc .

Sakura dose have a back grown, Kishi says She is an ordinary Girl from an ordinary family. Father is a life long Genin so is Her Mother. She had lived an Ordinary life until graduating from Ninja academy. So don't go making Her life as being anything like Naruto or Sasuke.

I don't think so.

İt is up to author how he portrays the character. Everything has potential the moment author sketches them from a beginning point. There are well written chracters (in overall literature, not just Naruto) who are relatively normal and not angsty. To be fair, going over angst is easier than going over someone's life who had been less problems since you can slam a back ground and incrase relatibility and "depth" 10x times with sob stories.

Sakura as a normal girl had potential, as someone who grows up to see the realities and harshness of the world and grow stronger according to it. But it is never used. A character is more than being angst.

The reason most of us hate sakura is because of her personality . She is actually one of the characters that resembles reality . For example - In our world , their are people who cry and whine over little things while they are people with bigger problems . Similarly in Naruto , Naruto and Sasuke had their sad past but all she cared about was sasuke's good looks and how cool he was . Who puts a boy over his entire village ?
She also constantly admits she is useless and a burden and that she will change but does she ? No
Same is some of us say we are gonna change tomorrow but we don't.

I don't remember Kishi saying that he forgot about Sakura's character, probably he just wanted to see Sakura as a bridge between two power houses Naruto and Sasuke.
Naruto is all about 'idealism'(he even forgave Obito, the guy who killed his dad), Sasuke is all about revenge, these two characters are far from reality although Sakura is way realistic.

If she had gone through some significant struggle earlier on in her life and finally overcame it later in the series. She'd be significantly better. She'd have a driving point in the manga and a clear goal. From what i recall, she was bullied and wanted Sasuke to notice her... Hardly interesting nor something that a main character can work with.

And they are far from being bad as Sakura :heh:
Shikamaru and Ino developed more than Sakura did in part 2.
3rd hokage has his bonds with village and his death added a good depth. Plus he is relevant to many ocvurances such as Uchiha massaccare.
Guy has one of the best written relationships with Lee, plus his friendship with Kalashi seems more component and Real than Sakura's relations with her teammates and sensei.
Jiraiya agains has a nicely written bond with Naruto, had a death added depth and relevancy.
