The Problem With Sasuke Uchiha (Not A Hate Thread)

Now before I get started, let me make this clear.....

This is NOT A HATE THREAD!
This is just an open discussion as to why I have a problem with Sasuke's character.

When we 1st met Sasuke, he had one clear and worthwhile goal:

After Team 7's grueling Chuunin exam, again through hard work and training Sasuke improved yet again particularly here:

Then at the VOTE Saskue and Naruto went to toe and Sasuke's descent into madness truly began:

It was here that I felt Sasuke reached the his greatest point through actual hard work and training:

But that is where my like for Sasuke ended. After the fight with Itachi, Saukes hard work and training stopped and he started recieving hand out powers for his eyes without training to obtain it. Now in Sasuke's defense this would have been fine except he stopped relying on planning and supreme battle tactics and heavely and solely relied on the Use of :

The fight with Danzo also marked the end of Sasuke's tru path to vengance and thus began the confusion(and my fustration) of his character.

I used to respect Sasuke because, like Naruto, he obtained his most powerful feats through hard work and training. They were "his talents, and were not hand outs.

Granted, he was still a cocky bastard but i was okay with that as he is Naruto's opposite, his shadow so to speak. Now he has been reduced to getting handouts, sitting in the darkness while Naruto does all the fighting. And, most importantly, when he finally recieves the EMS he still is reduced to sitting on the sidelines and rendering "support" to other top tier ninja as seen in his fights with Kabuto, and now Obito as well.

It's sad that his character has become nothing more than a support gimmick. As much as I dislike Sasuke, as Naruto's rival....He deserves better.

This is indeed my issue with his character as well. For a long time he drove the revenge theme, but now it clearly drives him. He made that theme his own, but it became evidently clear that Kishi had no idea what he was doing with his character.

Nothing in the Kage summit arc made sense, but the fact that his power started to stem from those sharingan powerups, I felt even more discouraged.

But let's not just give Sasuke the shaft here. Each and every one of these Uchihas brought something nasty and dirty to this story. As much as I like a few of them (Itachi, Shisui, Obito etc..), their entire concept is whack.

edit: And some of these jutsus are simply disgusting. Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi are without question the most unnecessarily broken techniques I've ever seen in any fictional world. They would either have to get retconned or ignored later on.

Why Kishi? Just why? Endless black flames and time disparity genjutsus sound awful.

The fight with danzou still showed battle tactics he won with no help right. Also danzou was using izanagi you honestly think curse mark would be enough too beat him. Sasuke still figured out his jutsu and beat him. Ur not saying shit about danzou handout power from Sasuke entire family .

He definitely does deserve better. Although, his motives for revenge... And what he wanted (to take what he had taken away) to do makes sense. There were innocent Uchiha's that were murdered.

But, about hard work... Sasuke now gets his power from his hatred. Hence the curse of hatred. So it makes sense also. But I see what you are saying. ^_^

I'm a diehard Sasuke fan but it's easy to see Kishi has trolled Sasuke in the war arc. He gave him the hype of EMS and then showed it through Madara who is the strongest Uchiha. 50+ chapters into the war arc after seeing Naruto's awesomness who gets to fight opponents left to right we finally get to see Sasuke... Sasuke is immediately distracted by Itachi after testing out his new powers/Susanoo.

Then we get trolled by Sasuke not even being able to fight at his full strength and purposely holding back. Now we're almost 200 chapters into the war arc and Sasuke hasn't even used his full strength.

I honestly don't care if Sasuke is currently inferiror to Naruto. At least let him fight at full power. Honestly what is Kishi thinking holding back his 2nd main character from using his full power in the war. Naruto on the other hand has had the benefit of using his full power consecutively.

I haven't be on in a while so i won't respond ignorantly to this. Common sense Sasuke main powers come from his dojutsu. But did you say he got the Mangekyo for free? Did he not go thru an intense battled with Itachi? Then learning the truth he awaken his Mangekyo. Kishi has showed us Sasuke training comes with his battles. Bee he used Amaterasu, Kages/ Danzo he unlocked Susano'o. I guess after every life and death battle you want Sasuke to go train smh. After all that he had to face off against Kakashi & Naruto, then he obtained the Eternal. The Kabuto fight that is common sense he wasn't allowed to kill him. Itachi was the leader in that fight, much like how he was against Nagato with Naruto and Bee being helpless. It's funny the last few chapters have you really down on Sasuke, but I'm not his time to shine will come.

I was cool with that. When the MS was introduced I already knew he'd get it... It was cool mostly because it had a drawback. Blindness and whatnot...

EMS ruined a lot of things, though. Won't deny that one.

Sasuke did train to obtain his powerups even after getting MS, but they were all offscreen .
For example : sasuke getting a hawk. It all happened offscreen and we still dont know how he did it.

All of the techniques used by sasuke are gradually improving which suggests he did train to improve them. For example , he used to bleed when using amaterasu but now he dont . He can use amaterasu in more ways than he could do in MS .
So yeah he is improving , its just that all the battles he fight are his training .

It is funny how u say sasuke powerups are handouts while naruto's aren't .

Naruto was literally given the kyuubi , it was sealed into him right on his birth.
BSM power up didn't require any training.

the thing is , as naruto is the main character, we see every little thing he do in his life, like his training for example, while we dont get to see it in case of sasuke.

Like for example, we saw how naruto develop FRS but we never saw how sasuke develop Kirin . SO it doesnt mean kirin was a free powerup. Similarly just because we have not seen sasuke train with MS, it does not mean he did not train at all.
If you remember , before MS sasuke was going to kage summit, he told juugo he wants to try out something and later it was revealed as the susano. It suggests he did some mental training (if not physical) to develop the susano.

At this point in manga, Naruto and sasuke have done two combo attacks.
There was a chapter which was literally named " you are the main stars" and it highlighted sasuke and naruto.

If we look at current condition in the manga, everyone fighting juubito have had their chakra stolen by the tree , everyone but sasuke and juugo.
This means , at this point, tobirama,minato,naruto .. all are defenseless and Sasuke has to should all the burden.
Hopefully , we will see what else he can do with EMS in upcoming chapters before these guys regenerate their chakra.

It's more of a problem with Part 2, than just Sasuke. Naruto also has the problem, albeit to a lesser degree than Sasuke. For example, Kakashi suddenly informs us that with shadow clones and Naruto's ridiculous chakra levels, Naruto can get a ton of training in a short amount of time. This is problem because it gives Naruto an unfair advantage because he was born with those chakra levels. the vast majority of ninjas don't have that advantage.
However, even in part 2, Sasuke did do some training though less training than I would have liked. Sasuke didn't magically pull out Sussano in his fight with Killler Bee, he had to work on the black flames first. Then he worked on improving his mastery of the black flames. After that, he was able to get Sussano and then he worked on getting more powerful versions of the Sussano. So, he didn't train to get MS and EMS but he did work to master the powers of MS and EMS.

Sasuke's character is ultimately becoming a very poor cliche. Kishi got him stuck inbetween two options of advancement: More misdirected hate, or more revenge. That's all he's been allowed to do since Part two started. This war has done him no justice in the slightest either.

I am not coming at Sasuke with hateful remarks here. As I stated above this is not a hate thread. Me calling it that means exactly that! I am the OP so I set the tone of this thread. As you can see above I am not bashing Sasuke. just disappointed by how his character has developed and what he has been reduced to. There was no name calling of Sasuke here. I am just giving constructive critisizm of his development. Take it for what it's worth and not what you assume this thread is about.

XD I feel you on this! I get EMS keeps them from going blind, and I am fine with the ocassional Amateratsu here and there. but They are simply relying to heavily on them now.

I am not discrediting Sasuke for the Danzo fight. That was all him. I am simply stating that this fight marked the end of the tactical and engenius balance between Sasuke's taijutsu and expert use of his MS even though it was still new to him. He showed great battle talent here as he demonstrated he had kage level prowess.

I understand that. I am not too upset about how he obtains his powerups at this point. I mean even Naruto is getting free handouts from Karama now. But all Sasuke really does now is spam Amateratsu and Susanoo. He is capable of far more. What happen to Kirin, setting up carefully laid traps for his opponents and the like. He should be beyond simple spamming of the same jutsu over and over. He should have taken out his share of edo kages and fodder zetsu etc.
