Yea hidan could not hang with the rest of them. Kakazu kept him around because if he was ever angry he could not kill his teammate. He was in the Akatsuki probable because they needed another body. Besides that him and Zetsu would get killed if they were team up with anyone else. The others would lose their patience and try to kill him.
