Am I the only one who thinks this? So here's why I think Mifune deserves a hell of a lot more respect:
As soon as he saw Sasuke, he was onto him like a tramp on chips. Didn't even say anything just went straight down to business, before the Kage could even think to do anything he instantly leapt into action, clearly a man of motives and ideals. No fear.
Now we move onto Hanzo... In the past Mifune and some other Samurai went up against Hanzo, while everyone else ran for their lives against the notorious Hanzo, Mifune stood proud and faced Hanzo head on 1 v 1 although he still lost, Hanzo recognised his potential and let him live... And later when Hanzo was revived Mifune faced his old nemesis once more and defeated him clearly proving himself in terms of strength and tactics.
At the five Kage summit, Mifune was moderating the meeting as the voice of reason and the one to decide who would lead the allied Shinobi forces. In order to be a good judge many qualities are needed, the fact that Mifune was chosen to moderate and decide the fate of the remaining Jinchuuriki's shows that he's reliable and trustworthy. While many other individuals would be quick to decide who should be selected, Mifune didn't sway to one side, he kept an open mind to try and understand from the perspective of each of the 5 Kage. Even though he was manipulated by Danzo under a Genjutsu, he still gave Danzo a chance to explain his reasons and motives. Clearly a show of intelligence and wisdom...
Unlike other Nations, Mifune is only leader of the land of iron, commander of the Samurai; "The General". This further shows his leadership skills and his ability to control a entire nation. The Samurai follow his lead and trust his motives, which is the one of the most important things to maintain if you're a leader.
Let's hear it for Good ol' Mifune!
