Well the recent chapter would have proven fanboys wrong. I stated in a thread that because of that instance, Naruto was better at reading opponents, not necessarily smarter.

He has a goofy personality and have a humorous sense; but that does not make him an idiot; people like Jiraiya, Guy aren't idiots and they have eccenteric personalities; in a way like Naruto. His "personality" is not exactly like them they are all different characters; what i meant was a character can have comedic moments but that does not mean that character is an idiot. Guy and Jiraiya are examples for non-idiot characters who have comedic moments in the series; just like Naruto.

Kishi also explains every single time they switch that they did it. He never just leaves it out. If there is no proof in the manga, that was Naruto speaking.
