I know what most people are going to think about this thread, but I'm not trying to troll here. Now I need for everyone to put aside their fanboyism, disregard each character's hype and importance to the manga and just view this matchup objectively.
Despite me being relatively new to NB, I have watched and read a lot of the anime and manga, as well as others. With that being said Naruto sort of sets itself apart from other mangas in terms of most matches being determined by matchups and strategies (at least it used to, now it's more like DBZ). Because of this concept, I found this matchup pretty compelling. I'll organize this thread by first comparing them in the generic categories of Intelligence, Power, Speed and Strength. Then I'll give a battle scenario.
Intelligence:
Both Minato and Kakuza are considered to be intelligent shinobi. Although Minato is more lauded for his and is considered a once-in-a-generation genius, Kakuza is no fool and actually has the most fighting experience in all of Naruto (He outlived Madara and Hashirama). With all things considered, I think that translates to them being practically equal in this category. Just imagine having lived for nearly a century and unaffected by age. Not to mention he was already an exceptional shinobi of his village in his own time without the immortal jutsu.
Power:
Based off what we've seen, Kakuza's mask displayed much more destructive power than any version of Minato's rasengan. And when they merge for combo attacks, the damage scale increases exponentially. For sheer firepower, Kakuza's the man.
Speed:
Although Kakuza isn't slow by any means (he has a 4 in the data book), Minato still holds the clear advantage for obvious reasons.
Strength:
I don't believe Minato is weak at all, but Kakuza is among the most physically strongest characters in the manga with his earth grudge fear. Bearing that his opponent doesn't have raiton, which Minato doesn't, it would be hard to damage him. Advantage, Kakuza.
Now for the battle scenario:
Assuming they have no knowledge of each other and they're in the location where Kakuza and Hidan fought Team 10, I believe Kakuza would actually win. Aside from Minato's genius, he only has a few means of attack i.e. FTG, Kunai, rasengan, DRS (which kills him too) and that teleportation seal he used on the TBB. True he could overwhelm a lot of characters with this skill set, but without his weakness, how does he actually damage Kakuza?
His FTG would make him hard to hit as well, but once Kakuza separates from his mask, it will be 5 on one. that gives him the advantage in numbers and jutsus he'd be able to use simultaneously. Not to mention those mask bodies can fly or levitate, effectively putting them out of Minato's reach.
Kakuza could also utilize his tendrils well in this fight. For taijutsu, he could easier bind you and take your heart like he almost managed with Kakashi. He could also use them underground to remove Minato's kunai to keep him from getting too close to him. Unlike Naruto, Minato doesn't use clone feints, so he could probably use a zoning strategy, while his mask attack from all angles. Even if he does find a way around all of this, including his earth grudge fear and kill him, he'd have to do it 4 more times to win. I know there are other possibilities, and Minato has his chances, but any logical person would have to give the advantage to Kakuza in this matchup or at least give a reasonable means for Minato to win. (this conclusion is referring to base Minato, I consider that KM Minato has clones and most likely a much more powerful rasengan. That completely changes everything and Kakuza would most likely be overwhelmed quickly)
I like both characters therefore I tried to observe a potential battle between them objectively and compare their fighting styles and battle tactics displayed in the manga. I've concluded that Kakuza should win majority of the time. If you disagree, like I'm sure many of you will, at least post some good points and reasons I might have overlooked or forgotten about as to how Minato wins. And if you didn't read, please don't bother posting. Thank you!
