While I respect Naruto as a main character and I recognise his tactical prowess. He can come up with effective plans on the fly which trumps making plans beforehand and having them go awry, but I really wish he expanded on his jutsu more. If you take away Naruto's Kage Bunshin, you literally annihalate half of Naruto's arsenal (Rasenshuriken, Sage Mode e.t.c.) and that's not good. He should have learned some more Fuuton jutsu and Fuuinjutsu. By now I think the only reason Kishi made Naruto an Uzumaki was so the battle between the older brothers ideals vs the younger brothers ideals could be re enacted without giving him a linage that includes arguably the strongest clan in the Naruto world (Senju). He just added in that Uzumaki's were good at Fuuinjutsu, but never even gave Naruto any outstanding Fuuinjutsu capapbilities.
While I respect Naruto's ideals, I feel he's a bit too naive for a world like the ninja world. Sasuke stabs him with a Chidori and he still wants to bring him back, just because Sasuke was the first person he knew that felt t5he same pain as him. He clings to everyone who has shared past experiences like him (e.g. Haku, Gaara e.t.c.) and while this can make him powerful allies, it can also endanger him (e.g. He was holding back against Sasuke at VOTE and missed his Rasengan on purpose. He would have been dead if not for Kyuubi).
