Is Izanami Cheap?

Personally, the only jutsu I hate in the whole of the Naruto universe is the Izanami. The Izanagi was also fairly cheap but to be honest the cost was pretty big- Danzo found a loophole in a very strong technique so I don't mind Izanagi but Izanami is just pure bad writing. Before we start this ISNT an Itachi hate thread, that just isn't what this is okay, I hate the technique itself. Any ninja could've used it and i'd call them cheap. It's Kishimoto's bad more than Itachi's.

Okay for starters, I honestly am not sure if Itachi could have won this fight without this ability, Sasuke for sure wasn't doing anything so who knows how this battle would've ended otherwise? The thing is, Kabuto prepared his own body especially so he could counter Itachi. He could close his eyes and thus was impervious to Genjutsu, Taijutsu (Hozuki Water Trick) and Ninjutsu (Could heal instantly) The guy was basically Uchiha-proof as Kabuto prepared himself for fighting Tobi. I honestly think Kishimoto could not think of a way to defeat his own villain, which is a very common thing for writers and so I can't really blame him- he's just a writer after all.

DEUS EX MACHINA - A plot device whereby a seemingly unsolvable problem is suddenly and abruptly resolved, with the contrived and unexpected intervention of some new event, character, ability, or object. Depending on how it's done, it can be intended to move the story forward when the writer has "painted himself into a corner" and sees no other way out, to surprise the audience, or to bring a happy ending into the tale.

Izanami is a Deus Ex Machina.

I don't mind that they won but it's just that IZANAMI. seriously? A cheap, deus ex machina technique created solely to win the fight- it had never been mentioned before and will probably ever show up again. It was a bad ending to a good fight. Was there any other, more creative way to defeat Kabuto? Orochimaru taking over? Itachi weakening Edo Tensei and all remaining Edo's coming to get revenge on Kabuto? Was Totsuka Blade possible at this point? Literally anything other than hax Izanagi.

You may as well just call it the 'Defeat Kabuto No Jutsu'

I agree to an extent, it kind of just appeared out of nowhere, which was a bit annoying, as I was hoping for a more thrilling end in the fight between Kabuto and Itachi/Sasuke.

Btw, that Deus Ex Machina crap can simply be translated to thw widely popular term "Ass-pull"

I know this, but it's an instant win card that hadn't even been set up. I promise you will never see the jutsu ever again, and since there were no costs to using the jutsu in the story (Itachi was going to die again anyway) there was no dramatic tension and it was a typical deus ex machine (asspull)

It reminded me of superman honestly. Dude gets a power out of no where for every occasion. But it doe make sense, mythologically speaking, that he would include it.

The eyes can be replaced though.

I thought it was sort of a cheap in, but kishi had built Kabuto up to be so powerful that it was really the only way to at least make a sense out of how kabuto would lose the fight.

i guess that means kakashi is just another uchiha obito eye is why he's famous and knows over a 1000 jutsu and has survived every encounter

When Izanagi was created kishimoto most likely made a counter tech for a future fight if he decided to use it on Kabuto because it was the perfect situation. He did not need it to beat Kabuto. Also had not been for Sasuke Kabuto would have gained control over Itachi again

Well.... please consider one thing: Where there is Izanagi there always will be Izanami..... Izanagi and Izanami is actually a Divine Couple in Japanese Myth.

Seriously, because I suggested like 3 ideas of the top of my head which were more believable and interesting.

Orochimaru DNA takes over, Kabuto goes batshit crazy with power and loses all sense, Itachi somehow weakens his Edo Tensei jutsu and Kabuto's own Edos turn against him... Hell couldn't Totsuka Blade have worked? Something that involves how Kabuto is sneaky and that would be his undoing. Something cool.

I think you're being a little bit too optimistic about Kishi's writing abilities there pal. If Izanami was something on the cards before the war don't you think it should have at least been mentioned? Hell, Obito and Itachi talk about eyes enough- could've fitted it in easily.

Izanami is a badly written technique. Whether it's a bad or unfair jutsu in the show is entirely your decision.
