Chapter Four: Part One. The Beginning
Team Seven has been diligently training since their first high ranked mission, for the upcoming Chuunin Exams. So far, Naruto and gang know nothing about the Exams only that it’s almost time to register. Naruto and Team are found at The Forest of Death, training hard. Shikamaru and Temari are near, about to give Naruto a message.
Temari: HEY! NARUTO!
Shikamaru: Do you women always have to yell so much….
Temari: Do you feel like tracking him down?
Shikamaru: No, that would be such a drag.
To Shikamaru and Temari’s convenience, Naruto and his team were close by. Naruto jumps from the forest, and lands in front of Shikamaru.
Naruto: What’s up? Long time no see. How’ve you two been?
Shikamaru: Alright. It’s been a drag helping to organize the Chuunin Exams again. This is why we are here by the way.
Temari: The Chuunin Exams will be hosted at The Hidden Cloud Village. However, I can’t tell you what the tests will be, and what landmarks they will be held at.
Naruto: It doesn’t matter if you tell me or not, I already know it’s going to be on the Island Turtle.
Temari: How did you know?
Naruto: If you didn’t know, I spent a good amount of time training with Octopops there. That’s how I got to be in the position with Kurama today.
Shikamaru: Yea, I heard about that. Since you already know the location, the proctor for said exam will be Killer Bee.
Temari: Yes, which reminds me, as the next Hokage Candidate, you are offered a few special things.
Naruto: Really? What would that be?
Shikamaru: First, since you have the relationship with Killer Bee, you will be able to help proctor if anything goes out of hand. Second, you can watch from wherever you want during every exam. Third, during the tournament, you get a seat amongst the other Kage (which now includes all of the smaller villages leaders), and get to judge the candidates. You will also be able to come and go as you please, after the opening ceremony of course.
Naruto: Awesome! I’ll make sure to do what they ask of me.
Shikamaru: It sounds like a real drag, but it’s you that’s the next Hokage, not me.
Temari: Maybe if you would stop complaining about how everything is a drag, then you might have actually been nominated.
Shikamaru: It wouldn’t have mattered. I’m not nearly strong enough to protect the village.
Naruto (chuckling): What does strategy do against a tailed beast bomb?
Shikamaru: Nothing. That’s exactly what I mean Temari.
Temari: Hmph.
Shikamaru: Alright Naruto, we have to leave to The Hidden Cloud to get things prepared. Good luck.
Naruto: Thanks Shikamaru, Temari. I appreciate you two stopping by.
Temari: No problem. See ya later.
Shikamaru: See ya Naruto.
Naruto: See ya.
As the two leave, Naruto thinks about his time at the Island. He is worried for his students about all the dangers that
lie. However, he doesn’t want to tell them they can’t take the exam. After his own Chuunin Exam, he is sure they will pass with flying colors. Naruto walks back to the Forest of Death, however, someone is sprinting towards him at full speed.
?: NARUTO!
Naruto turns around, only to see a man in a green jumpsuit, and orange leg warmers. Two kids are stumbling behind him, while the other is right be next to Lee. Lee stops on a dime, right to Naruto’s side.
Song: Rock Lee’s Theme
Naruto: Bushy Brow!
Lee: I see you’re hard at work training. The spirit of youth! My students and I have come to challenge your team before the Chuunin Exams!
Naruto: Lee, I would, but we are in the middle of a training exercise. However, I can get them out of the Forest since this seems like it would only help.
Lee: That’s the Spirit!
Since Neji has died, Lee has made a habit of troubling Naruto with the never ending rivalry. The standing record is 20-22, with Naruto in the lead. Lee has been looking for this opportunity since his lost. Naruto recalls the kids to the plain outside the Forest. Patsuta, Fukutsu, and Kameha recognize their old classmates.
Fukutsu: Whatcha doin here?
?: Ready to fight you! Are your prepared!
Patsuta: Dyno, calm down. We haven’t even discussed what the challenge is yet.
Dyno: I’m sure Lee Sensei will come up with a great challenge!
Dyno Chan is the next part of the Guy-Lee teacher-student connection. Even if his life is devoted to taijutsu, Chan has learned some ninjutsu as well. He sports the bowl cut, with the green jumpsuit and orange legwarmers. His eyebrows are less bushy than Lee’s, and has slightly shorter hair.
Naruto: So Lee, it seems as if it is my turn to pick the challenge. I declare a capture the flag game in a section of the Forest of Death. All jutsu are acceptable. What do you say?
Lee: Great choice Naruto. If I lose, I will do walking pushups to the Hokage Mansion. (Walking Pushups are pushups that you move two steps after every pushup, and never get up from the position).
Naruto: Fine by me.
Dyno: Sensei, if we lose, I will do them with you!
Lee: That’s the spirit Dyno! The power of youth is flowing through you!
Fukutsu(To one of Dyno’s teammates, Toppuu): Are they always like that?
Toppuu: Unfortunately. It’s a pain watching them do this all the time.
Toppuu Gekko is the son of Hayate Gekko and Yugao Uzuki. He specializes in swordsmanship, just like his father. He also excels at genjutsu, along with various amounts of sword based ninjutsu. He carries his father’s sword, and is prominent with one of his father’s jutsu known as Dance of the Crescent Moon. He has aspirations on becoming one of the greatest sword ninja in the Village.
Patsuta: You guys are goin’ down!
Shinku (Another of Dyno’s team): I wouldn’t be surprised. But I want to win, so we don’t have to do any of Lee
Sensei’s silly tasks that involve the body.
Shinku Yorutsuki is a scrawny boy, no taller than Naruto was. Even with his scrawniness, he carries advanced ninjutsu, and learned a decent amount of genjutsu from Kurenai Yuhi. He dislikes the way his sensei is so quick to work on his body, mainly due to Shinku’s focus on the mind, and chakra flow.
Naruto: Alright Team Seven and Team Two, are you two ready for a game of Capture the Flag?
The Two Teams: Yes!
Lee: Then let’s get started; let the power of youth carry you through this challenge!
Team Two: Yes Sensei!
Naruto: *Thinking* He has no idea how skilled my team is. The traps we are about to set are going to be almost impossible to pass.
Lee: *Thinking* I hope Naruto is ready for a butt whoopin’. These kids are talented. No doubt they have the power of youth.
Naruto: Scatter!
The two teams scatter into the Forest. After Team Seven has laid a few traps, they head out to find Team Two’s flag. (The Traps include the Fire Kunai Wire trap as seen in the First Test Chapter and the quicksand trap as seen in the First Chapter) Team Seven, discovers the enemies flag, with no one around. This however seems suspicious. Naruto thinks that they might be walking into a trap. Naruto sits down, not moving a muscle. A familiar orange hue surrounds his eyes. Even though this is essentially cheating, Naruto knows that if he doesn’t give it his all, Lee will keep coming back for more. Fukutsu, Patsuta, and Kameha look at Naruto, again amazed by his powers. Naruto then stands up, gives them four fingers and points to each of their hiding spots. All of the sudden Lee and Dyno appear in front of them…
Song: Beautiful Green Wild Beast
Lee: I knew you would use your senjutsu to track us down. That’s why when facing you, one has to be unpredictable.
Dyno: Wise words Lee Sensei!
Lee: Alright Dyno, attack!
Dyno: Yes Sensei!
Song: Rinkai
However, Naruto is still in Sage Mode. He quickly takes Lee and Dyno out with two punches. Lee gets back up again, and motions two his two remaining students to escape and grab the flag. Naruto motions for his students to do the same.
Lee: You won’t beat the both of us!
Naruto: We’ll see about that.
Lee jumps towards Naruto, preparing for a Severe Leaf Hurricane. Naruto quickly dashes out of Lee’s way…
Naruto: Rasengan!
Naruto’s Rasengan hits Lee square in the back, sending him into a tree.
Dyno: Lee Sensei!
Dyno attacks Naruto, expecting to hit him from behind. Naruto ducks and Dyno jumps off another tree to recover. He comes up to Naruto from the front, with Lee coming from the back.
Lee & Dyno: Severe Leaf Hurricane!
By this time, Naruto’s Sage Mode has worn off, leaving Naruto unable to dodge.
Naruto (grinning): Hmph.
Song: Strong and Strike
Naruto turns a bright Orange. Two Chakra arms emerge from Naruto’s body and stop both of the kicks in midair. Naruto throws the two away, as if they were nothing.
Lee: I would expect no less from my eternal rival!
Lee: To beat a foe such as Naruto, we have to use those justsu.
Dyno: Right Sensei!
Lee and Dyno get into position to unlock a gate.
Lee and Dyno: First Gate: Gate of Opening!
Lee and Dyno head towards Naruto at flying speeds. Naruto is still in Chakra Mode, and ready to take the two on in an all-out Taijutsu battle. Lee comes at Naruto with a combination of punches, which Naruto dodges easily. Dyno flies at him with legs ablaze, prepared to make his mark. However, Naruto again blocks Dyno’s attack, while delivering a punch with a chakra arm. Dyno has to do whatever he needs to protect himself. Lee sees his student, and unlocks a second gate. Lee then uses the Dancing Leaf Shadow to appear behind Naruto, ready to use the Front Lotus.
Lee: Gotcha now!
Naruto: Not yet Lee!
Naruto uses the Body Flicker Technique and escapes Lee’s Front Lotus, something that hasn’t been done. The battle comes to a standstill as only Lee and Naruto are left standing. The scene shifts to the three Team Seven genin, hunting for the flag.
Song: Confrontment
Fukutsu (In a quiet voice): There it is.
Team Seven has spotted a green flag, with no one in sight.
Patsuta: So it seems that the other team really did head Lee Sensei’s words.
Kameha: Seems like it, we have already won.
Fukutsu: We shouldn’t just rush in there right away. It could be a trap.
Kameha: Those fools wouldn’t know a trap if I laid it out for them.
Patsuta chuckles, Kameha and Fukutsu laugh as well. The three of them jump next to the flag and take it. They head on over to their base to finish the game up when they hear one of their traps go off. Kameha smiles, knowing that she got the first of the enemy team entangled in her kunai web; the three head over to investigate. There stands Toppuu, sword out, with a bunch of wire at his feet.
Kameha (grinning): Nice job Toppuu. It seems that you aren’t that bad.
Song: Reverse Situation
Toppuu (Also grinning): Well, it would have taken a while to track you down, as we have no sensor types. However, setting off your trap seemed to do the trick. Shinku, do it now!
Shinku appears out of nowhere, and starts weaving signs. He places Team Seven under a genjutsu. However, Kameha uses her chakra to break out easily, as she is more advanced at manipulating chakra than her teammates.
Kameha: Ha, I’m good with chakra. You couldn’t catch me, even with your best genjutsu.
Shinku: ****, seems as though ninjutsu is going to have to do for now.
Toppuu: Don’t waste your chakra, it’s two on one. We can take her.
Kameha walks over to Patsuta and releases him from the genjutsu as well. Patsuta thanks her and they both start weaving hand signs.
Kameha: Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!
Kameha’s Fireball is even larger than the last fight.
Patsuta: Wind Style: Powerfull Wind Wave!
Patsuta learned this technique from Naruto during his training. They spent hours trying to perfect it, so it could be used with combination jutsu with his teammates. Fortunately, this is the perfect time. The fireball increases in size and becomes faster. The fireball gives Toppuu and Shinku barely enough time to react.
Toppuu: Vacuum Wave!
Vacuum wave is a kenjutsu that focuses chakra into a vacuum. This will greatly diminish the size of the Fireball, and
the speed, giving Shinku enough time to draw out explosive kunai. Shinku throws the kunai to the fireball, and the explosion offsets the massive amount of fire.
Toppuu: Good work.
Shinku: Thanks.
Unfortunately for Team Two, Team Seven has already returned the flag to their base and rung the alarm bell to signal the end. The two teams meet out front of the Forest of Death. The sun is setting, and the two teams look extremely beat up. Lee stands there, smiling, happy with the training exercise.
Song: Victory
Lee: Nice job Naruto! You have shown great strength. I would expect nothing less from my rival!
Naruto: Yea, nice try keeping up with my team and I. Maybe during the Chuunin Exams might your team beat my own?
But don’t count on it; they are the greatest bunch of genin I’ve seen since our generation.
Lee: Yes they are! The power of youth is a great spectacle indeed!
Naruto: Right. Well Lee, I better be going. Hinata is waiting for me, and I’ve kept these kids here too long. Alright, later kids.
Naruto disappears, using the body flicker technique. He returns home after a long day, and the rest is left to the next chapter.]
