also minato lost to kurama. getting your wife to restrain the kyubi while you sacriface you and your wifes life sealing half its chakra doesn't count as beating your oponent.

In this case everyone has their own opinion and there is no need to argue about it.
While i respect both characters (they are one of my favorite) and have to say that Minato's sacrifice was more impressive because:

1.Itachi chose to sacrifice his clan for the greater good, Minato didn't have that chance actually. There was no way to get rid of the fox without any sacrifice, whatever the case was someone had to die so Minato did what he thought best for the village and in order to also protect the village in the future through Naruto.

2.Itachi valued peace more, and loved the village more. When you love something that much, if someone goes against your values you do everything to stop them. One could consider that with their plan the whole clan dropped from Itachi's graces. And as someone said above he killed others, not himself... sacrificing yourself, and the one you love most (and your child if you think about what Naruto had to endure as a kid) is a harder thing to do if you ask me, something not even Itachi was able to do (he couldn't kill Sasuke).

About Naruto being the saviour and Sasuke going evil, can't say anything about it... it was a gamble for both Minato and Itachi... both of them hoped for the best, it could have easily been the other way around.

They both were great, but Itachi not killing Sasuke is basically putting the village and the world at risk right now.

Minato saved his home by sacrificing himself and is pretty much saving the world because of his foresight in knowing Tobi would cause great harm in the future, so he knew his son would need the kyuubi's power. Now it's sealed within Naruto and he's protecting the entire world.

Basically Minato's sacrafice was greater imo because of his incredible foresight in knowing his son would be the child of the prophecy and protect the ninja world, so he gave his son the power to aid him in that quest.

Itachi killed all off his family and lover BUT Minato killed himself for his village i think its more of a sacrifice to killl yourself rather then kill others regardless of the reason.

but i'm gonna talk bout the outcome
it looks itachi sacrificed a lot , but his way was brutal and not very good for future point of view there could have been another way for peace . whatever the situation but killing his entire clan i don't understand. still i think itachi was a great man .

his sacrifice was not that great, many people will sacrifice them-self for his child , but the outcome was surely great , and his vision that naruto will be the savior was right ,
it wasn't that much of a sacrifice but something like a long-shot which is going save the world.

so itachi and minato both are heroes and i don't want to compare them both were great

i would have to say minato because if he hadn't sacrificed himself tobi and the ninetails would have destroyed the whole leaf village. And itachi's sacrifice was great too, but that was only to stop a coup d'état of the uchiha.

People say it's more honorable to kill yourself, then others. Minato was the kage, it was his duty to protect the town by all means. He got to die a hero. Itachi had to make an equally big sacrifice, knowing he would go on being seen as a criminal for the rest of his life.
