It's not something that should happen. But to be honest, if Texas did secede, what happens then? It's too dangerous with all anti-american sentiment in the Middle east, we divide our own people and we rare literally saying "Hey, shoot right where it hurts!"

I don't really see the point in all of this talk about states leaving the Union. Especially, for the reasons that people keep citing. Instead of running from a problem and potentially creating an even worse situation, people (like Gov. Perry) should use their positions to confront issues and change political policies. If you feel that the Government is not listening to you, form a political action group, run for office, vote, etc. In other words, take action instead of threatening to leave.

Furthermore, I don't think the states that want to secede would do very well on their own. Relatively small, independent nations are not fairing too well globally. If you look at current trends, most nations are merging together to create larger alliances and geo-political entities to compete with the likes of the United States, China, the EU, NATO and OPEC.

While certain states (namely Texas) has a relatively large economic base and a high GDP overall, even they would likely falter if they were to become independent countries. The largest employer in most states is the GOVERNMENT, which means that unemployment would initially skyrocket if a state were to secede. Additionally, the vast majority of people that do not agree with the current political policies in America are from relatively rural states with small populations and high agricultural output (Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, etc.). If these states were to become independent, they would likely have an issue offloading all of their food and produce. I highly doubt that the United States would continue to rely on another country for its food supply. Energy is one thing, but I don't think that there is a single country in the world that cannot produce its own food supply.

Then there's the military. Again, the largest employer in most states is the Government, and this includes the industrial-military complex. This means the suppliers, support personnel, infrastructure, maintenance, R&D, the Soldiers, and many other aspects that would likely dwindle if states were to secede. I don't really see Alabama, Louisiana, or Mississippi really needing their own military. Texas probably could sustain a military, but a lot of the existing defense contractors and developers would likely relocate.

I could go on about why people shouldn't support succession, but I've had my fun and honestly have lost interest.

Idont have a problem with obama, i just want texas to be its own. And no i dont live there i was born there.

Here's how I see it, this thread isn't even created with Romney as president. It might not be about Obama for you but for most that's exactly what it's about, just a bunch of Southern pricks crying.

Most of the petitions submitted thus far have come from solidly conservative states, including most of the Deep South and reliably separatist Texas. But a handful come from the heart of blue America - relatively progressive enclaves like Oregon and New York.

All told, petitions have been filed on behalf of 20 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Many of the petitions invoke the Declaration of Independence's dramatic assertion that "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government."

The petitions have been submitted through the White House's "We the People" website, which aims to give "all Americans a way to engage their government on the issues that matter to them." The White House promises that "If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and we will issue a response."


Is it a sad day in America when, We the people don't stand and face the problems together. Or do we just want to move somewhere with less government control. Hey! Maybe people can smoke MJ there.


The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government

Earlier I posted and the petition was at 30,000 signatures, it now stands at 50,000. 27 more days left to get signatures.

In three days there have been 50,000 signature.

Sign it.


Ok, listen. You're probably new at this whole seceding business so I'll let you in on a few tips.

Signing a petition will not get you magically seceded.

Getting a lot more than half your state calling your legislature and saying, "Secede dam you! I want to keep my slaves!" will.

...

Oh wait slavery is illegal in your state. So I guess you'll have to change that first, then secede.
