Lately, I've re-caught the Pokemon fever (it never really left but gets bigger and smaller at times) and I've got some spare time on my hands so I would like to make a thread about the official Pokemon Champions (excluding all player characters but Red). I'm gonna be ranking them in order of a. the most powerful and b. how much I like them as characters. X AND Y ARE EXCLUDED BECAUSE I HAVE NOT PLAYED THEM (but you can add them in when you discuss if you like). I am ONLY considering the game's canon, not the anime or the manga.
List of all game canon Pokemon Champions and their most powerful teams:
Blue (FRLG): Heracross Lvl 72, Alakazam Lvl 73, Tyranitar Lvl 72, Exegguctor/Venasaur Lvl 73/75, Arcanine/Charizard Lvl 73/75 and Gyarados/Blastoise Lvl 73/75
Lance (HGSS): Salamence Lvl 72, Gyarados Lvl 68, Garchomp Lvl 72, Altaria Lvl 73, Charizard Lvl 68 and Dragonite Lvl 75
Red (GSC/HGSS): Pikachu Lvl 88, Lapras Lvl 80, Snorlax Lvl 82, Venusaur Lvl 84, Charizard Lvl 84 and Blastoise Lvl 84

Ok, so that's the teams. I'm not going by levels since it's unfair to Wallace. We all know that Red > Blue >= Lance since these battles happened in the game (Blue beat Lance but that was in FRLG and Lance has gotten stronger since then). While many believe that Wallace beat Steven to become the champion, Steven is the game's final boss in Emerald. Wallace may have beaten Steven but Steven left to train and became stronger so Steven > Wallace. Iris defeated Alder which makes Iris > Alder.
I'm gonna go off of teams for everybody else. I say the next spot goes to Cynthia. All of her Pokemon are tanks and she has the most balanced team. After her is Lance with his haxxed pseudo legendaries. Cynthia > Lance So, for now, Red >=< Cynthia >= Blue > Lance > Steven > Wallace. I put Steven after Lance because his team's typing is quite bad and despite having strong Pokemon, this weakness puts him below Lance (you could argue about Ice being a problem but Charizard deals with that). I hate to admit this but I say that Iris beats Steven because, like Lance, she has haxxed pseudo legendaries. Steven beats Alder though. That leaves the bottom place between Alder and Wallace and the top spot between Red and Cynthia. I'd have to say that because Blue vs Cynthia would be so close and Red > Blue without a doubt, that Red > Cynthia (although I didn't want to put Red as number 1 while making this lol). Besides, in the games canon - if they ever did fight - the writers would make Red win due to plot.
By looking at the teams, I believe that Wallace would beat Alder due the simple fact that Alder has a freaking Vanilluxe in his team. I actually find Wallace very difficult when I play Emerald. So Alder is the weakest Champion.
So the battle rankings go:
1. Red
2. Cynthia
3. Blue
4. Lance
5. Iris
6. Steven
7. Wallace
8. Alder
Now, as an extra, I'm adding a ranking based on how much I like each character's design and character:
1. Cynthia (she's just uh-mazing!)
2. Red (when playing through HGSS you always hear of this oh-so powerful kid who defeated Giovanni and became champion and then you finally face him and you're like :OOOOOO also, he's you
)
3. Blue MotherF****** Oak (THE rival)
4. Steven/Lance (they just seemed so cool in everything they did)
5. Steven/Lance (they're also very similar)
6. Wallace (I liked his design and his choice in type. You also can't catch Rayquaza and expect an easy fight as everything has Ice Beam!)
7. Iris (I liked how she turned from a gym leader with little experience to the champion. She definitely displayed potential so Drayden trained her)
8. Alder (the whole region's gonna get frozen over... let's let the protagonist handle it, I mean, he's shown no evidence of power and I was a champion but I'm sure he'll do fine without me)
So there you have it guys, it took me a while but, yeah, that's what happens when I get bored in holiday/vacation with nothing to do. Please leave your thoughts and opinions.
PS for those who might consider N, feel free to discuss. His strongest team was when he was only using Black/White Kyurem. So the question is, who out of these champions can Black/White Kyurem solo when under N's control.
