Naruto changed during the pain arc. When pervy sage died and his village was destroyed, he felt pain, the need for revenge and how to endure.

It's how he kept up with Sasuke's train of thought in the kage summit arc.

He used to let his anger get the best of him. Had deidara not been a clone he would of murdered him.
