He is not contradicting himself you are just reading it wrong.
He points out that the name itself is not what gives you power and that is why he was angry at his clan instead using their own strenght they clinged to the name itself.That has nothing to do with the statement above he talks about the justu which hails from the uchiha clan hence the true might of the uchiha clan as the genjustu takes affect regardless of your senses.He is not just talking about the name itself he is backing up his claims with actual actions

Isn't really a contradiction bro, he doesn't know what techniques and power that the Uchiha clan but being an Uchiha doesn't mean anything in its self, I don't see the contradiction :shrug:

Kabuto was hyping the Uchiha clan. so
Itachi says Uchiha denotes your root and people you belong to- meaning just because you are uchiha does not mean you are automatically strong, sharingan is attained by talented people. only the reputation of the Uchiha is what tags along.

He doesn't know the full strength of the uchiha- literally means there is more to the Uchiha's strength then kabuto knows.

Its not really contradictory. Itachi states that the name of the Uchiha themselves is not what's important, its their strength that counts.

Itachi knows that the Uchiha family is strong, no doubt, but he's saying that the people themselves and their personal strength means more than the family name.
