Here is the example for ya. Madara used normal sword to finish hashirama, hashi caught it with wooden hands. If madara used sword slash from the start he'd win. Also TBB didnt explode upon rashoumon (very convenient), not to mention that beam bijudama wouldnt backfire on madara.

Bottom line, madara never lacked power to kill hashi, and while SM is great, madara could've easily exploited the time u need to enter it.

Much detail on the techniques hasn't been reviled but what is know is that even with this technique the Sage couldn't defeat the juubi and was forced to seal it into himself. Creating a new body wouldn't change anything. His soul needs to be placed into the original body, which is something that can only be done with Rinne Tensei.
