I just saw the episode and I think this give insight into how devil fruits are reborn. So it answers quetions and raises questions on how Dofla got Aces fruit and blackbeard could have gotten whitebeards fruit.

I think its because smiley had a devil fruit power, but when he exploded he died. So his fruit was reborn in the apples right next to him. So maybe its a hint as to how blackbeard was able to get a hold of white beards fruit and Dofla, Ace's.
