Big Sur is a rugged stretch of California’s central coast between Carmel and San Simeon. Bordered to the East, by the Santa Lucia Mountains and West of the Pacific Ocean. It is traversed by narrow, 2-lane State Route 1 that is known for winding turns – seaside cliffs – and views of the often-misty coastline. It has been historically known to be closed at times due to numerous landslides in the past, making traveling dangerous. It stretches several miles long with numerous attractions. This long stretch of road will shut down during times of war to serve as a traffic free zone for military personal.
